New Member Oakland

Hey everyone,

I'm a shore angler who recently got some offshore experience from a friend who had a boat. It was awesome not getting snagged constantly and pulling up limits way easier than on the shore. Unfortunately he moved away and sold his boat so I ned to figure out a way to get out there (hence the kayak forum). I'm hoping to get into kayaking and would love to get any advice from anyone. Looking forward to making my first purchase and getting out there with the rest of y'all.

Best advice, get a kayak.  You'll never look out from the shore again.  (Unless you're figuring out where to paddle to.)  It's a great way to fish.  Good luck!

I just bought my first kayak recently.  I downloaded two apps “OfferUp” and “Letgo”.  Real good apps to find people in your area selling used stuff and here in Sacramento there are plenty of kayaks for sale.  It will save you a few bucks especially if you don’t want to invest too much into your first kayak like I did.  I think I paid like $325 for mine, I got a Perception Mustang.

Another thing you’ll want to thing about is a sit in vs sit on top.  I got a sit in and I kinda wish i got a sit on top.  I’m new here as well but I’d imagine there are a lot of threads talking about the sit in vs sit on top kayaks.

Welcome!   My brother has a bass boat and I moved away. Found myself casting from shore.  Fun, but I wanted more.  Now I have a kayak.  It’s so much fun. It’s challenging for sure.
