Just moved to Sacramento/Davis area from the East Coast.

Went out last weekend for my frist kayak trip, rockfishing in Monterey Bay.

Really excited about prospect of fishing for salmon this weekend. I have the requisite trolling gear, including downrigger. Fishing from a 2019 Hobie Outback.

If anybody is going and wouldn't mind me tagging along, I can make the drive south to Monterey/HMB or up north as well.

Thanks a bunch  :smt006

I'll likely be out between the buoys at HMB on Saturday. You're more than welcome to join, though I'm far from an expert. Last weekend the bite was decent, but I didn't get lucky. My fishing buddy did, though, with a 17lber. We'll probably launch from the beach near the kayak rental place in Pillar Point around 7-8am (depending when I can drag myself out of bed). I'll be monitoring 69 if you want to give a shout. Name is Carter.  :thumleft:

Hi Carter,

Fantastic, thanks for the offer... I will totally join you guys. I will plan to see you in HMB on Saturday morning.

In case I launch earlier than you, I will be in a bright green Hobie, and wearing a hunters orange baseball cap.

I'll try to say hi on Channel 69 as well.

See ya,

Lucas

Trip report: I had one bite trolling between red and green cans. I lost it when I pulled the line out of the downrigger clip, which introduces some slack into the line.

From chatting with other kayakers and listening in on 69, a fair number of people were getting bites, but only a few catching. Most popular depth seemed to be 30 ft.

Lots of kayaks in the early AM, but by 11 AM the chop picked up and most of us packed it in. There was tons of bait balls inside the harbor, didn't seem to be much outside.

A great time was had by all, and it was great to meet you Carter!
