Forecast looks good, finally. Late notice I know, but I'd love to have some company for a Navarro launch Monday or Tuesday...

Wish i could go, it started looking better yesterday evening,  south wind has been constant,  i saw some big 20 -30 kings get netted, i had big one on for a good while and she spit the hook, pulling serious drag. Bite was slow but enough to keep me trolling for 9 hours
Just north of fort bragg at the reef

Do u mind  saying what u were trolling? My fiance and I are going out  tomorrow,  but salmon is a new game. I was thinking  about a anchovy  on a rotator. Behind a flasher?

If I can go out at Navarro I'll try for salmon. I don't like to go solo there - nobody around to help if I get in trouble.

Thursday will probably be a rockfish day, out of Albion most likely.

Thats should work, my buddy had 3 takedowns yesterday and land one 29" chrome,  using a double deep six flasher and fbr with anchovy 55 -60 pulls in 80' fw

Report:
I did end up going out at Navarro on Wednesday, and Albion on Thursday. Fishing was pretty slow both days. Came home with two Lings (after nearly 5 hours of fishing) from Navarro, and a nice Vermilion and a couple other rockfish from Albion (only a couple hours). Wednesday was the best ocean conditions, nearly flat and almost no wind; today it was choppy and sloppy outside Albion cove.

Salmon are out there, but I didn't get any action in the Navarro bay. My buddy Don is out in Albion trying for them today.

The ocean is in great shape this year. Kelp beds are bigger and healthier than they have been for four years. Lots of plankton in the water, lots of krill, lots of jellyfish, and massive amounts of baitfish - particularly Jacksmelt, huge schools of them around every patch of kelp and scattered in the open water as well. One of the Lings I caught had just eaten a foot-long jacksmelt - it was literally "stuffed to the gills" but saw fit to attack my swimbait anyway!

It's really busy out there, with Gray Whales going by maybe 50 feet from the yaks, Harbor Porpoises, and lots of birds. Any fish that float are scooped up pretty quick by Gulls, Ospreys or even Bald Eagles. Unfortunately for us, there are also lots of Harbor Seals and Sea Lions, and when they pop up in your patch, it's time to try someplace else.

There are also lots of fishermen, of all kinds - power-boaters, kayakers, and shore anglers. Albion Campground is a big ole party. A whole different scene from May, when it was closed and we locals had the place all to ourselves...

Looks like the wind is coming up again so I'm glad I was able to get out. Even in today's gentle breeze we had to tie off to kelp in order to stay on a reef.

We chickened out and went to Albion Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tons of blacks.  I caught a capazon and a ling. Lost a china at the yak, didn't use my net. Saw a ton of birds just hanging out right outside the cove. Also saw some pretty  big fish jump that I can only assume were salmon  inside the cove
