Hey NCKA,
I'm pretty new to kayak fishing and have only done it in Mendocino area for rockfish and some unsuccessful salmon missions. I will be in the Bay area/in Berkeley for school, and am hoping to get a kayak there.

With the ocean looking pretty inviting the next week, I am hoping to get on the water and target halibut, salmon, and rockfish. Pretty psyched on halis since theyre harder to come by in Mendocino and I have never eaten one. I am under the impression that monterey is pretty good, but how about the bay off of Berkeley? Do people eat fish from there?

I will probably be diving in monterey if anyone wants to try to link up for either diving or kayaking.

Any info is appreciated. Looking forward to meeting people.

The bay is great for halibut. Most launch from Alameda Rock Wall (ARW), Richmond, Oyster Point, and Paradise. You can launch from Berkeley as well but in my experience it tends to be windier.

You can eat fish from the Bay.  Just be sure to keep within the recommended serving sizes and schedules.  Heavy metals are real.  There are also very nice stripers, white sea bass, sturgeon, and sharks in the Bay as well.  Of course, crossing one of the Bridges can put you on the Coast in short order.  There are lots of fishing options.  You'll have fun!

One of the most, if not the most, entertaining and informative guide on the subject. Not just kayak related, but plenty applicable to kayak fishing and for general knowledge of our abundant salt waters.
