My buddy with a PB Out of bodega always recommends.  Sounds like my kind of Salmon hunt.  They’re usually close in.  It is a half mile slog from the road however.  Just wanted to ask if any folks here ever fished it :smt006

Do it and report back!

You can park at either the north or south parking lot and you are basically in the sand. Not sure where you are looking at 1/2 mile unless you are talking kehoe or mcclures.

No protection from the swell at all so it would be an exciting launch and landing.

I've hiked it via Abbots Lagoon trail and my impression at that time was yeah, be nice to launch a yak there but it would take a low low swell/breaker day. Be similar to launching off Salmon Creek beach on a calm day. Doable but takes some skill.

Hmm well I’m the yard sale king (Bolinas ask Eddie).  I guess I’ll stick to launching at Pillar Point easier for my 65years.

Thanks to you both for your quick responses.

That beach is the real deal. Places like Bolinas and Linda Mar are lakes by comparison. Kayak fishing there is still on my list of things to do.

Remember, no wheels allowed at Kehoe, McClures, or Abbotts. Federally designated wilderness areas prohibit wheels of any type.

I’m very familiar with the area. There are probably 5 days/years when it’s flat enough to safely launch, fish and land. It is one of the biggest, baddest beaches in the state.

That being said, when it’s on there ITS ON. Salmon and halibut both just past the breakers...

Could you launch from Dillon Beach and roll down from there? It’s be a haul, but you could avoid the crazy surf launch... You’d have to cross the most prominent landlord stalking grounds.... Anyone ever done this here?

There is a turn out about 2.4 miles NE of Abbots Lagoon there’s a trail down a wash that’s what I was looking at.  I guess if you had a foldable yak in your backpack you might pull it off.  A hero’s journey.

Damn, that'd be 7+ miles one way and that doesn't include any fishing mileage. And if things get hairy, there's no spot to bail either. And its sharky.

Otherwise ...

Sharks would be the least of my worries on that haul.

The North Beach is really tricky..  Getting out of the water would be incredibly hard.  The sand slope below the water line is very steep and it has direct exposure to the NW swell. It has a fierce undertow and the pure sand structure crumbles under your feet if you are walking up under the water and you can't beach a kayak.....too steep.
I spoke to a NPS surf rescue ranger about it one day.
