Hey guys,
I’m a bit of a slow learner, but starting to see the light.
After my recent post, I got some advice about toning down my posts because I’m blowing up spots and upsetting the locals.
Well..... Sorry, but I GET IT NOW!!
Rolled up to Bolinas around 7am this am and DAMN, couldn’t find a place to park.  WTF?
Frustrated, I turned  around and decided to get a doughnut instead.

Do you guys think it’s best to voluntarily “generalize” our fishing reports?  I definitely screwed myself this am.
NCKA is a great community, but apparently there’s a lot of people scanning reports, looking to capitalize on intel.

Going forward, I for one, will refrain from posting specifics.  Don’t see any good coming from it. Maybe that’s what slowed the salmon bite?  Too much pressure?  Maybe, maybe not, but parking sure sucked.  :smt010

Use my experience as an example and not hurt ourselves.

Well, you're not the one who "blew up" Bolinas with your hookup post last week.

Bolinas has always been a small local "secret" or less pressured spot because of its location, further drive than most areas, and how the locals like to keep their sleepy town just that... sleepy.

But it recent years, more surfers have been flocking to its shores and sleeping in their vans/campers/cars/trucks and taking up a lot of parking.  On weekends, more and more families have been coming to the beaches to relax and let their kids play.  For kayak fishing, its always been a handful of kayakers.  Only during salmon season would you see maybe a dozen or so.  Then a youtube video was posted last year with a catchy title and named the town as an epic fishing spot for not one, but two species, both salmon and halibut.  With the recent pandemic, small local towns are trying to keep their communities safe and minimize infections from out-of-towners.  Then once the SIP orders opened up and the hot salmon bite happened, every kayaker flocked to Bolinas, which just recently saw 2+ dozen yaks on the water in a single day.

So with the massive influx of tourists coming into Bolinas, you can see why the locals would be pissed.  I get all the arguments that its public beach and everyone has a right to be there.  But you got to look it from the neighborhood's POV, they don't know these tourists regarding the pandemic. They don't know who's sick or not.  It only takes one person to spread the disease, that could potentially hurt the whole town.  Then every weekend, there's no parking except down the road, nearly outside of town, resident or not.

So, its not you.  This has been a problem that would eventually happen.  In terms of fishing in general, social media changed everything and changed the reason people go fishing.  Its not about getting out catching fish, being with friends, enjoying nature, fishing some personal solitude.  For some, its ego stroking, likes, subscribers, sponsorship, and a means to potentially make some income.

One good tip would be to not post subject lines in all caps and with BEST and EPIC and YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS with multiple exclamation points.

Or, EPIC!!!

Hey if its your home spot, go ahead and be as detailed as you want. If it's a well known spot already, location and particulars are cool.  If it's a reclusive, off the beaten trail, very special to a small group of locals type of spot, then probly be vague and general.  take photos pointed out to sea, not with coastline background, like that.  Or, if its a known spot but not yet a "known bite" I would advise circumspection.  No, FM1 not CIRCUMCISION!!

Lets be real...he only realizes it was a bad idea because he couldn't find parking.  If he found parking, he would have learned nothing.

Some folks gotta learn the hard way. Glad he got to learn it sooner rather than later. At least he was man enough to admit he was wrong in front of everyone her which is more than can be said for others who make mistakes but don't own up to them.
