Hey all, I've gone out a couple of times in the bay, and the wind has just been intense. Ive started using multiple weather forecasts, but it seems like it never really drops below 10mph. I tried Berkeley pier remains the other day and it was super blown out with significant waves/chop.

I'm guessing summer is windier than average, but wanted to ask anyway: what are the exact weather/tide conditions you are usually looking for in the bay?

I know that you want to avoid tide extremes so that the water is flowing, but would love to hear any more in-depth tips if anyone is willing to share.

Thanks and cheers!

Out of Berkeley or Emeryville my advice is simple. Get on the water at grey light and plan to be off by noon. It is just about guaranteed to blow in the afternoon. At least you get blown back to port. If you want to try TI you can hold on the lee side of the island most days into the afternoon.

Thanks so much for your response. Will follow your advice and get out at gray light. I'm wondering if there are more sheltered spots in the bay that people tend to go when the winds are high? I noticed San Pablo Bay for example seems to get less wind than Berkeley?

Paridise park on the Marin side is usually the calmest.
We have the government, that our forefathers warned us about.

I see, I've heard of it a bit. I'll check it out, thanks so much!
