Interesting kayak from the founder of Jackson Kayaks. I like the method they use to do away with scupper holes. 40 pounds, $8,000.00.

I think price point is far out of reach. Design, IMHO, is ugly. I’m sure the other kayak manufacturers have looked into this and cost was prohibiting. Will see where it goes.

If they can bring down the price and come up with a drive system,  I'm in. 👍

In one of the promotional videos, Eric Jackson states that cost is no object for this product, and he's specifically targeting the market of those that can pay this much.

Interesting concept, but it looks like the sports car version of a fishing kayak. Very fast, but not too practical. Will the magnets hold my crab pots :smt002

It’s cool for a platform that won’t permit rod holders, downriggers, a fish finder, etc.

For $8k I’d want a kayak to basically do anything/everything. That said, it looks like it would be wicked fun to paddle

40 pounds

Not exactly. It says "near 40 pounds" and actual weight is "pending".

This $8k kayak is 12' 10". An Eddyline Caribbean 12 weighs about the same (45 pounds), and has an MSRP of $1500.

Interesting kayak. Being his back round is white water it will probably handle rough water pretty good. (he has great WW video training)
Bigger picture is looking back and how far advances in fishing kayaks have come.
In the 70's folks discovered you could take a sit on top out fishing. Before that you could go with a sea kayak with a small shelf mounted to hold fish finder and fishing rod. (I still have mine) Then the Ocean kayak crew came up with the Trident line Imagine being able to launch and land thru surf and not loose equipment and fish finder protected. Was record setting. Being most southern calif fishing required launching thru surf it was a major improvement. Fast forward to today and the new kayak fishing magazine has 50 fishing kayaks you can pick from. Wow
Sad part is the weight of the new kayaks takes away from the reason for having a kayak. Light weight and maneuverability. Now you need a trailer to carry a kayak. Most you cant pick up by your self.
Look at the demand for the stealth out of austrailer? Fiber glass and good performance and light weight. I am waiting to try on when available.
So hopefully the industry will wake up and build lighter kayaks
So the new Jackson kayak might just wake up call the builders need to build in fiber glass and Kevlar kayaks. There is a major need. Imagine our current kayak 30-40 pounds lighter.
A original ocean Trident in Kevlar with larger area for fish finder would again lead the industry

How well would an ultra light kayak handle rough water compared to day a 90lb kayak? I dunno if kayak weight plays any role in comfort when used in choppy water.

Now that there are a bazillion pedal drive models available, weight might (finally) get the attention it deserves. But, as much as I’d love to have a Kevlar version of my Hobie Island, I doubt the future belongs to composites. That technology has been around forever and costs remain prohibitive.

Poulton, sounds like we came from similar water histories

In the 70s there was one other guy I knew of between lower Monterey and way up to Oregon fishing from a Mulderboard if youre familiar with that one. Must have been others but not the circus it is now for sure

I had the first Stealth 575 shipped to the USA just based on what I saw of it online, not perfect but it has measured up in so many ways. Unfortunately the customer service sucks or maybe I’ve just had bad luck with them

The 575 handles well and when you get punched by rough conditions and end up swimming it’s as easy to handle as the old Mulderboard was. A little heavier but not by much and it’s 2’ longer

Ive been trying to coax a polymer engineer friend to help with a new design but life is busy
