Went out fishing at HMB this weekend, didn't bring home any salmon but got some rockfish.  Snapped some pics of a rather close whale encounter.  Enjoy!

Very cool!  Were they in the vicinity of red/green cans?

That looks a little too close for comfort, or else a very long lens...

This one was 20-30 yards away from us.  We saw it coming.  It was moving fast on the surface headed straight for us, then dove right before making contact.  Had the heart beating for sure.

How was the condition yesterday?  The forecast called for strong wind and big swell.

This was sat.  Maybe 4-5 ft swell with 10-15 mph SW wind.  Fishable, but not a lake.

Love it !

I once had a pack of seals headed towards me. They all started to dive down about 30 yards before me

Totally relieved until one of them grabbed the ling cods on my stringer i had forgotten about. Was tipped so close to turning over.

Adrenaline rush.     :smt001

Here's a blurry pic of it's approach.  It was moving pretty quick!

I was right next to NolanDuke at the time, and boy was that whale close.  I was scrambling to get the camera out, and half thinking I was 10 seconds away from a collision.  We also got to see a smaller humback fully breach about 200 yds away.

It's not the greatest quality, but I added a shot with my fishing rod in there for perspective on the distance.
