With a view at current events, what are the odds that Fort Bragg, CA will have its name changed, or at least have someone in Sacramento try to pass a bill to change the name?

According to Wikipedia "In 2015, members of the California Legislative Black Caucus petitioned the mayor of Fort Bragg to change the name due to general's links to the Confederacy."

The town was named in 1857, before Braxton Bragg joined the Army of the Confederacy. Maybe they should have renamed it back in 1861 when he turned traitor and captured a Federal arsenal. Apparently he was personally opposed to secession, and was "just following orders".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braxton_Bragg#American_Civil_War

Edit: Renaming a town is not unprecedented: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_city_name_changes

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Edit: Although after further reading of the Wikipedia article linked above, maybe we should celebrate him after all, since it appears his incompetence actually help the Union win the war:

"Bragg is generally considered among the worst generals of the Civil War. Most of the battles in which he engaged ended in defeat. Bragg was extremely unpopular with both the men and the officers of his command, who criticized him for numerous perceived faults, including poor battlefield strategy, a quick temper, and overzealous discipline. Bragg has a generally poor reputation with historians; while some point towards the failures of Bragg's subordinates, especially Leonidas Polk—a close ally of Jefferson Davis and known enemy of Bragg—as more significant factors in the many Confederate defeats at Bragg's command. The losses which Bragg suffered are cited as principal factors in the ultimate defeat of the Confederacy."

So yeah, the largest military installation in the world is named after an incompetent traitor. Nice!
