I would say Revo 13 based on your description. Note that the only people nudging you toward an AI are the folks who have one. :-) You won’t see anybody who owns a regular paddle kayak or traditional pedal yak suggesting an AI/TI. I forget how the phrase goes, but it’s something like “Misery loves company.”

AI is not light compared to Outback and Revo.  TI is even heavier.  My recommendation is you look at them first.  If it's heavy when you are fresh, imagine what its like at the end of a long day.

Just to add a data point, I have a 2009 AI, and I almost always use it as just a kayak (Revo 16 equivalent). Maybe 15% of the time I will rig the whole thing, and it is great when there is a favorable wind or I am going to be out for most of the day, but otherwise it’s nice to skip the hassle and keep things simple.

Gotta second the Adventure/Revo/A1 hulls. I have a 2012 Adventure and if I'm not using my sea kayak pedal conversion I use it for offshore fishing. Faster and cuts through waves without much wave slop. They are quite stable in the water. Following larger seas can make them feel a bit twitchy occasionally but one can always pull the rudder and steer and brace with the paddle if need be.

I really need to try some of these hobies out. Looks like shelter in place has most kayak retailers with rentals / try-before-buy shut down, total bummer.

+1

That's pretty much the setup I have, except mine is a 2014...

Another AI here. Extra stable out there with swells. But yes it is heavy for loading. I use hullavator to car top. Balloon wheels a must.
But for ease of use Revo 13 is the all around light kayak.
I still have to try the 2019 Outback it’s collecting dust.
Revo 11 is cute.

Another option here...if the AI is too long for you, you could always get a Revo13 and add the AI amas for more stability.

the outback will feel the most stable if you aren't too used to getting hit by waves on the ocean, but the revo will in very short time become to feel just as stable once you get your kayaking coordination down.

I like the revo because it is that much lighter than the outback and it gets you out to your fishing grounds that much faster.

There are 3 kinds of people in the world: Those who own an AI, those who wish they owned an AI, and those who don't know any better...

Another question for the AI/TI folks - does it have to be registered in CA? Or, do most register it?

A google query on the topic launched me into a whirlwind of conflicting information, and most threads were a few years back. So, does it have to be registered if you plan to use the sail? Do beach/park rangers cite AIs/TIs for no CF numbers? What's the general consensus on registration?

Sort of seems like a bummer if that's the case.

Needs to be registered same as having a moter, on the bright side you can add a moter.

I think you should get a Revo 13 or an Adventure/Revo 16 but I have no Hobie experience.

What about a real    :yak :smt064 :smt064 paddle kayak many would be better than a pedal kayak for the launch (and landing!!!) at Linda Mar?

Things get really heavy at the end of the day.
