Trust me, i have been trying to work out the math on that. Just the parts to bulid it as-is comes out at about $2000. Labor wise, i am probably about 80 hours on it total? It is tough to track since some times it is just an hour here and there to spread some epoxy. I guess I'll have to see how Eric Jackson's "Apex" does at $8000 with no pedals. lol.

Well, it was a good holiday weekend for the Kayak. ...

That thing looks fast on the water even when it's not moving...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Whose ready to go fishin?  :D

I had to take about a month off after the 2 month marathon to get it splashed, did some work around the house and went camping/4wheeling/fishing. I went to the ocean last saturday in my Hobie and that fully reignited the spark to get this thing done. I spent all week fairing the hull to what i could consider a "Sonoma Coast Finish" being as i hardly ever get the luxury of launching from a sandy beach, it is always sliding down some rocks, so i didnt want to make it too perfect. Paint is all rustoleum, rolled and brushed on.

I bought a new Mirage drive, so i don't have to steal the one from my other kayak and i also upgaded to the larger "sailing" rudder that Hobie offers. You can't have too much rudder, right?

I took some pictures next to my Moken14 which is very nearly the same size in almost all dimensions, including weight. lol.

Now i just need to finish rigging it all up and we'll be good to go.

I don't, i am guessing somewhere in the 70lb range. it is slightly lighter than the Moken, and much lighter than my Outback. I need to find a decent scale that i can use, the wife's bathroom scale it too fancy to bring outside to the shop.  :smt005

Thanks so much for sharing this process, it looks so much better than any factory yak out there. That thing looks like an absolute rocket in the water.

Im a hobbyist surfboard shaper, and have often thought about taking the plunge on building a yak. This is great motivation. Good stuff man.

Nando, Do it! it is super rewarding and when you break it down to the individual steps, it really isn't that complicated.
