OK. That makes sense. The excess water does not immediately drain out the drive hole in that it has the option of flowing across the deck to the scuppers. When I converted a sea kayak to  Hobie drive propulsion I made the deck surface areas all higher than the lip of the drive box so water would instantly run out.

Great to see both fishing and boat performance success on the first trip on the ocean.

Thanks all for plywood sourcing info.
I'll probably see if Jackel HW can order plywood when I get to that point otherwise take a drive up to the bay area.

I would love to see the boat sometime, I live in SC but work up in Santa Rosa so maybe one of these days I can take a 'slight' detour on the return trip, that or have an excuse to fish the delta with a similar detour.

It would be great to talk about the building process and get any tips.

Thanks again for documenting the process.

Stillgoin,
It looks like Bolinas on Saturday, if you or anyone else wants to join and check out the boat you are more than welcome.

Hi Cowbro and others,
Sorry slow getting back, hope Bolinas produced.
I'm definitely going to do it but almost certainly will not be started until late winter / spring.
I'm also thinking of doing an 8-10 ft pram or mini drifter first to brush up on skills but will see. Can't have too many boats though right?
Just need a place to put them and time to use them.
I'll probably buy plans and start messing around with expanding or shrinking them during the winter. Still thinking that Bluefin shortened to 13.5-14 and widened to 30 ish would be cool.

It is not sustainable for me, lol. maybe for Lance Armstrong.
Lance Amstrong could only do it because he put something extra into his drink. I really like your boat; it's so rewarding to develop your own ideas about kayak fishing.

Well, the kayak is still kicking butt and taking names. I feel like i have it pretty dialed, after my last trip i had maybe a 1/4 cup of water inside total.

I wasn't really looking for another boat related project so soon after finishing the kayak, but this thing was too cool with too good of a story to pass up.

This is a stitch-n-glue (just like the kayak) boat that was started back in 2004 and almost completed in 2007, but sadly the original builder passed away. The boat sat for 13 years at the builder's son's house and that is how i found it. I've had to make some repairs and modifications, but hopefully "The Waiting" will be on the water soon.

Here is how she sits today:

If anyone wants to check out more, you can check it out here:

I am not getting rid of the kayak, but it will be cool to be able to take family/friends out on the water from time to time.

Looking forward to how this one goes. Your last build was awesome!

Wow, a stitch and glue displacement cruiser. What a cool project! I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I hope you continue to post pictures of your kayak as well. It is neat to see something different in action.

Really cool project, turned out incredibly awesome!  Curious about the boat build, did you continue to work on it?

He's been fishing it for a few years now in the bay and out the gate so I think so. Good looking rig
