Went to Tomales despite the wind forecast...it was windy as advertised...but not horrible by Tomales standards.  Paddled to the zone and made bait very quickly...nice small jackies.

Drifted for about 30 minutes and saw the tapppy tappy.  Fed it.  Fed it more. Fed it a bit more.  Wound down and there was  a little weight.  Started reeling to see if it was an angel shark, leopard or bat.  Couldn't believe my eyes when it was ACTUALLY a hali...a little one.  I got the gaff and zapped him, and then beat the tar out of it!

Cute little guy between 25 and 26 inches.  This breaks a long curse and is my first off of a yak.  Woohoo!

I marked the spot and drifted for another few hours for nada.  Lots of other boats also got zip!  I had a random camper take this pic...

BTW...Eriks gaffs are SUPER sharp and work great on humans too!! Ouch!!!!

The wind started getting nutty so I called it a day early.  BTW Miller park is all torn apart and closed.  The alternative launch is kind of a pain.

Nice little Hali! Looks like it was a nice day on the water. Not too windy? Were you warm in the wetsuit/Jacket. The reason I ask is I'm worried about Elk. I have a wetsuit for Ty and only Neo waders for myself. So I was thinking of going Savage with Rain pants?what do ya think. Nice report, used to rubberlip and clam there(Tomales) about 35 yrs ago.   Randall

The launch at Elk can be gnarly...not safe IMHO with waders.  The suit I am wearing is only a 2 ml farmer with a lycra shirt.  I was super comfy all day.

Right on, right on!!!!!!!    I didn't recognize you at first this morning in your new truck, I  was lazy after shimmy and I fished yesterday by not taking my kayak off my truck, was actually on my way out to our garden in Geyserville.  I'm pretty stoked for you.  I bet your family is eating good right now!  ......And Scwafish takes back the lead!!!   Wooohooooooo!

Way to go Sean... glad you finally broke your butt curse.  That's two big firsts for you this year with the Dino and the Butt... way to go!

I may try to hit Tomales after work one day this week (Thurs maybe?).

Hey Sean,

Nice to here of a Tomales halibut being caught.  I need to get that one off my check list as well.

What's the deal with the alternate launch?

Brian:

There is a little gap between the construction site formerly known as Miller Park and the fancy new Nicks Cove.  Parking sucked, but it was a busy weekend. It would have been ez with a cart, but I didn't bring one as its usually a back it in at the ramp kinda deal.

There were lots of other folks drifting, but I didn't see anything else come in.
