UPDATED - See post #5.

A few folks on the forum had modded their seat for the older model AI. I always wanted to replace my factory seat. After scoring a boat seat for $50, that motivated me to mod it for my 2012 AI. I hated the AI for the fact that you're sitting in a puddle all day right when you get in the water. Now I love my AI. I've used the seat a few times already and it is comfy and keeps my ass dry.

I should add that this is only a prototype. I'm looking for a good way to attach the seat. Until then, I'll just have it attached in back of the seat.

rgds,
ernest

2 short studs (pvc?) from bottom of seat to go slightly into the drain holes??  This would stop front to back movement. That seat does look very comfortable!!

I kinda want to leave the drain holes alone. I'm trying to re-use the two loops where the factory seat attach to in the front. They are under the front of the new seat, just need to figure out a harness that can leverage the loops.

Very cool. How does it affect stability? It looks like your butt will be a few inches higher than normal. I guess it doesn't matter if you've got your amas deployed.

It’s more tippy, but like you said, it doesn’t matter since I only use it with at least one ama.

Someone PM'd me and expressed concerns that I don't lock down the seat. I went back to the drawing board and came up with a way to latch it down. Basically, a hook on each side of the seat and hook them up thru the original seat latches. Now the modded seat doesn't move and won't come off even if I flip it.

Here's what I came up with. I'll call it done after I powder coat the hooks and put the cover back on.

Looks awesome!  I bet it is much more comfortable than the Hobie seat.

Thanks for your suggestion to lock it down. It is more secure for sure.
