Health Department just announced today.  Shutting down all beach activities including surfing starting Friday  (I think).  End date in a wekk or 10 days...

Due diligence....Here's the gist from the County

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY BEACHES, PARKS TEMPORARILY CLOSED
Santa Cruz County Health Officer Dr. Gail Newel has issued a new order closing parks and beaches throughout Santa Cruz County beginning 11:59 p.m. on April 8th, 2020 through 11:59 p.m. on April 15th, 2020, a period which includes Easter weekend and much of Passover.
Issued under California Health and Safety Code §120295, the order is necessary to reduce the public health and safety threat from novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, due to crowding in recreational spaces throughout Santa Cruz County. Any violation of the order is a misdemeanor punishable by citation or arrest, with fines of $1,000 possible.

I'm one of those who is strongly opposed to closing down fishing, but I'd say this is reasonable.

However, I just hope they don't extend it, and extend again, and again and again. It seems well-nigh impossible for officials to even contemplate easing up on restrictions once in place...

And, this today.  In accordance with the Health Dept's closure of parks

"The Santa Cruz Harbor announced on Wednesday additional constrictions on all activities, in accordance with the County Health Department. “This closure includes, but is not limited to, walking, running, jogging, horseback riding, cycling, surfing, paddleboarding and kayaking. Public restrooms will be closed in the harbor area, and visitor parking will be limited to 20 minutes,” announced Marian Olin, Port Director. "

Link to the Health Officer order that the Harbor is following and referenced on it's website (I was checking it to see if I could bicycle- the only saddle I've been on for 60 years- across the top of the Harbor to use the Brommer-Broadway cross-town trail. Nope.).

Was in the village this morning, and above on the cliffs this afternoon taking the dog for walks. Police presence was heavy, and they were firmly (yet politely) informing people to disperse and that beaches were closed.

Yeah this weather has been moody for sure. And I don't think I've ever seen the water empty like this outside of when storms blow in. Definitely unsettling.

The surf break down there lately has felt like a rare safe zone, as safe as home and the covid units at work Never saw any of the crowds that were mentioned in the rationale for closing down the surfing in Santa Cruz This ain’t like the Florida of a few weeks ago

Jack’s especially has been populated by lots of parents and kids lately, everyone very friendly, smart, and safe-distancing behavior all the way from the car to the lineup

Not crying about not being able to surf btw, we will get our exercise one way or another

I know this isnt a popular opinion but keep an open mind

We make a point of spending cash on food wherever we go, and big tips for the few people able and brave enough to keep working the restaurants

Two of the people where I pick up my daily coffee are looking at moving into their cars, one of them is a young mom whose husband ran off with something he liked better and left her with two kids under the age of ten The cafe’s practices are on a par or better than what we are doing in our ICU, e.g. no mask no service, one or two customers inside at a time, 20’ apart. Same can be said of all of the businesses we’ve been in lately, including those in Santa Cruz

Anything we can do safely should be kept open for the sake of slowing the economic carnage

Say the word Bushy and I will hit delete

A few folks from my area got citations on their vehicles, parked in the dirt pullouts in N. SC County to visit the beach.
It was a big $$ amount because of the special circumstances.

I blame the guys that were interviewed on KSBW. They had driven here from Sacramento to surf, stated that since they figured they both suspected they were getting sick they didn't have anything to lose.
