Longshoreman, outdoorsman, looking to fish and crab from CA to WA!  :smt006
Im wondering how people work out storage spots for there kayaks? Right now its my biggest issue and it prevents me from moving fourth.
New to the fishery here so Im having a blast finding out about the new gear involved in kayak fishing and techniques offshore here.
Cheers everyone! Be safe out there

Welcome, no storage here other than cartopping for 5 yrs. Glad my area, so far, is not conducive to yak heists.  A good rack and lock might do but I did see SF as hometown...there is one yak storage facility in the city but I am not sure the name.  Hope we fish... :smt006

I think there are 2 places that rent kayak storage... one is the rental place and the other is run by UCSF near the Ball Park. Welcome

Thanks everyone!
Yep Local 10 here. Good to know someone made it all the way!
I found two local rental spots between $60-$100 mo but wow, that is a lot of bait!

Welcome to NCKA!

Find a good neighbor or a friend of a friend for storage issue. SF is notorious for auto and home burglaries though. So yes, definitely need a secure place to store your kayak and the rest of your fishing gear.

Welcome! I'm also in SF and know how hard it is to store toys. You could always get an inflatable yak like I once used... if you're gonna take it out in the bay/ocean.

Welcome! I haven't tried it, but there was someone on this board that put 2 "I" bolts in the ceiling of their apartment, and hung their kayak from the living room ceiling. Of course if you have a spouse, that may not be a workable solution!!!!

The price we pay...catch your bait or meet someone that has bait and you've covered your storage.  Some slayers swear by artificials, I'm always skeptical but they catch... :smt006

Yes, that’s the ticket! But I’m not sure it saves a ton of money unless you’re buying a lot of bait....

I live in a small SF apartment and currently chain my kayak up and lean it against the back of my apartment building.  If you have a backyard that would work too.  Most apartment buildings I've lived in SF have some type of communal backyard area that's usually not used by much.

Interesting, you mean the overall cost of artificials with loss of said gear included?  5-8 bucks a tray, 5 trays a month, cast net price and time and gas finding bait, storage of live bait...hmmm...better start doing my own math.  Maybe the feds will pay for some... :smt005...hope you're well... :smt006

I'm doing well here. I'm one of the lucky ones, as I can still do my job remotely. And, I get out every day for a fair bit of exercise, or I'd be completely stir crazy by now. Yesterday, it was 3 hours of hard labor with the chainsaw on our isolated half acre in the mountains. Usually, I do a brisk walk of 3 to 4 miles/day, as that's the best exercise I've found to get in shape for trolling on my Hobie. Once the Monterey Bay opens up, I should be ready to cover some serious mileage. I'm hoping that with my AI and sail, a trip from the SC harbor to 4-mile beach and back will become a routine day of fishing...
