As I prepare to join the fun of some of the kayak fishing tournaments, a major issue comes up.
Rules state fish need to be alive for weigh in and release
How are you going to keep Large fish alive for weigh in? and release?
A 12 inch plus fish is to big for most of the live bait tanks for kayaks.??
I am wondering what folks use to hold your caught fish.
A search of the internet show different examples of DIY floating Laundry bags and baskets supported by pool noodles.
towing one back to dock could be problem ??
I am curious what folks are using. And how they use
I am leaning towards a pop up hamper and pool noodles to float it. But bringing back to dock  again seems issue.
Thanks

most of the kayak tournaments I've seen go by length. At least all of the major bass tournaments. You need to get a ketch board or hog trough (though the hog troughs have been banned in some due to their ability to flex and alter measurements).

Is there a specific tournament that both goes by weight and is catch/release w live fish?

thanks for letting me know; I want to fish that event!

What about an old school, wire panfish basket?  It'd probably suck having to paddle far with it, but it'd probably work.

I had 5 18-19" bass in the Wilderness Systems live well/bait tank for about 4 hours and they were fine with the pump running.

Idk why they don’t pass out certified measuring devices that morning of.... only thing I see is getting a big enough cooler that fits in ur rear livewell and retrofit with a water pump and drain system... just to keep the water cycling through... to keep the fishes happy.

Racin, Thanks
That lets me know size of cooler to make up. Kinda concerned when full water back end kayak will be deeper in water??
Wilderness is just slightly to big for my Trident 13

Slack, I just need to find cooler that fits in back of Kayak.

Still think the floating basket is good idea while fishing. When ready to head back in transfer to cooler?
Thanks for the info

You've probably done this, but i would call the organizer and ask what people have done in the past. might have some good ideas for you.

Would love to hear what the organizer says, seems like a very weird specific rule for a kayak tournament.

didn't realize it was not a kayak tournament.

the edits lol.

Fish fry at organizers house? Stocking his own pond? :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!
