A Coastsider recently got popped for having a silver. Apparently the gums were black. It required a biologist to make the final determination:

I worked as an observer for two seasons on Puget Sound commercial salmon fishing boats.  I honestly do not believe that the coho salmon that the Coastsider caught did not have a white gum line.  I observed at least 5000 coho/silvers over those two years and never did find one that did not have a white gum line.  Its funny though, everytime someone says they caught a coho that didn't have the white line there is never a picture to verify.  I think he caught and kept a coho, got busted and wanted to blame someone else. 

By the way, the ocean phase adult salmon ID put out by WDFW is the best that is out there.
