This is really cool. I love projects like this!
But I have been disappointed with the Hobie h-rails so far. No matter how hard I clamp down my rod holders, they still slip when I’m trolling moderate weight (like 8oz).

Amazon shows shipping weight to be 19.7lb.

I like mine at 4 lbs. (battery excluded)

Pat, I don't see such problem. I trolled for Hali and Salmon last year and never had any problem with the clamp slipping. But if I did, I would add a thin piece of rubber between the bar and the clamp. I'm sure that would cure it.

I weighted my setup. It's almost 9 lbs with the battery. I can take away 3 lbs if I replace the wooded platform with an aluminum plate. I'm sure I can bring it down to about 5 lbs with the battery. Fortunately, I have several months before salmon season starts.
