Hey Alex, Ask you dentist to extract your tooth on Friday and join us on sat instead.  :smt002
In any case, hope you catch some white seabass. The rest of us can  find them at the local asian foodstore.

hey alien,
Looks like I don't have any takers for fishing bean hollow on Friday, are you set on fishing Capitol? I lived and fished that area for years with little luck and have been after the illusive white seabass too. I would be open to meeting up with you to fish the kelp beds off Capitol or we could go also go to Monterey or bean hollow where the luck seems to be a little better in general. LMK solsrf

solsrf1,

I am set on fishing Capitola. I never launched there before and have this chance to do so on a weekday. But if it doesn't look good when I get there I would consider another spot. Tarpen120 (aka Craig) from Oakland may join on the outing. I'm going to consintrate on Halibut, Salmon, White Seabass and if nothing els rock fish.

I keep getting this vision of White seabass even thou it might not be likely if the conditions aren't right :smut003 Old pica from a few years ago.

it's been flat for days and people are catching halibut, I think you got a super good shot at one
on friday.

don't ignore the real shallow 15 foot depths on the INSIDE of the kelp. no skiffs fish that. I caught
a halibut there a while back. and saw a school of undersize WSB at the same time.

good luck, wish I could get away and go with you, it's real relaxing fishing around there.

Hey J,

Thanks for the TIP. Was that on the left or right side of the Pier?

Ok, Alex,
I'm on-board and I think the conditions will be good. No swell and we'll keep our fingers crossed that the wind stays down. Scallen posted an interesting report on Capitola and it had a pretty good report/link from Bayside Marine on some guy catching WSB casting swimbaits off the kelp? Also reports of halibut just outside the kelp. Jmarley is right about the shallower inside action, I have had strikes from what I am sure was a halibut. Where are you coming from and where/what time are you going to launch; I have some suggestions if you are not familar with the area. Feel free to also give me a call regarding anything 831-588-5251. Let's get some fish!  Mike

Hey alien, I fished the beach at Capitola for a bit today and caught one short 'but from the beach on a fluke.I talked to a kayakfisher in a yellow mulibukayaks who said he landed three short wsb on live anchovies and saw some huge wsb in the school. He said he didn't have any trouble making bait and the anchovies were big.Good luck guys.

Thanks Aaron,

Thats good news! I hope it will last or even get better. It's been a while since I caught a white seabass or a halibut. Any news on the Salmon?

Salmon have been hit or miss...I spoke with Carroll over at Tom's in Moss last Weds because of Allen's Moss report and Tom's caught limits last Tues, but got skunked on Weds. There is plenty of bait around and the salmon are there, we just need them to bite consistantly on the mooch.

Striper action is also good...got a 12# today in the surf.

aaron, that is good news the anchovies are in there, that is fun to have a tube of live bait there.

alien it was on the right side of the pier halfway to pleasure point. I seen a lot more spearfishermen
this year there tho. that could be good news or bad news.

if the anchovies are there you can typically make bait right as you go by the pier on the right side in 8-15 feet,  then go towards pleasure point, inside of the kelp. you should see lots of openings in the kelp. pick an opening and inch your way into the kelp from the shallow side, usually no drift early you have to kind of paddle yourself a bit of a drift.

alien,
If it's alright with you guys, I'd like to join you at Capitola tomorrow morning (if I can finish up work tonight at a reasonable hour). Are you planning on launching from the beach to the right of the pier? Any particular time?
