Lings are my absolute favorite fish -- so cool to look at, and a blast to catch.  I ended up with a decent 35-incher.

Dinner tonight!!

Dave, a nice green ling! Green ling tastes better (IMO).

I did not do well yesterday - No ling  love for me. I lost my favorite(productive) jigs and lures at the beginning. The windy condition gave me more snags and lost more hardwares. At the end, I kept a nice Cab (21") and a red and released all other RFs. Most of fellows caught lings. I just love quality of fish produced at BH.

It was a nice day of meeting our old fellows. We should do more.  :smt006

A great Day at the "Hollow".  Other then around 10 MPH winds, conditions were excellent.  I missed a couple of good size fish due to old lures with dull hooks.  (Note to self -- always make sure hooks are sharp :smt013)  Mooch was using anchoves, kept ice cold with dry ice to land monster blacks, he was on fire!  After a frustrating morning I decided to put on the largest lure I had, A Storm 9" plastic, tipped with squid and that finally did the trick, Landing a 31" Ling.

If conditions are good, I will be there next Saturday.

Ah, so Mooch used my dry ice tip.  Good stuff, I use it a lot when I fish from shore, keeps the bait from going too soft.

Just be careful to not put things on it that you don't want frozen because it will quickly freeze just about anything.  One time I had some in a cooler and my sister put the macaroni salad on it, not having really paid attention that it wasn't regular ice.  When she came back for it a while later the bottom half of it had already pretty much frozen solid.  :smt044

You can buy the dry ice from many of the safeway's and albertson's.  Just be sure you leave some for me.

J, unless the salmon show up big time off dux next weekend, I have BH on my calendar and plan to target halis early, using Mooch's dead bait drifting technique (probably sans dry ice tho - will just keep em on ice til launch and use them early) on 2 rods, then switch over to RF with one rod, or until I catch a too-good-to-release RF while hali fishing.  Mooch and John gave me some general pointers at the Amigo's mex place and I wanna put those to use.  Been slow to start this year - need to get back to basics.

I had a similar day to Eric's...  Released lots of smaller blacks, gophers, and cabbies, then kept a 19" one (good thing I did - it was my last catch).  Drifted a 7" black on a jig and thought I hooked up with a hali, but I guess it didn't hook solid and halfway up it fell off, well fed, and I just brought up an empty iron.

Lots of snags due to fast drift, couldn't make up my mind on where to fish so I was just stuck in between places all day.  At least I didn't lose any tackle, finally.  I should have stuck with Mooch and the rest of the guys fishing shallow.

There were indeed lots of yaks out there...  The Queen of Hearts was fishing farther out.  I think Eric had a convo with them, maybe not Capt Bob, but someone.  I am sure they were awed by the "Armada!"

Good times fishing with everyone, as always.

Sat was Bean at its best. Everybody came away with decent stringer of fish. I myself bagged a  22" cabby, two decent black and yellow, and a copper that didn't make it. Catch and release score small fishes. Lost a approximately 30" ling when it roll and unbotton from the gaff and jump overboard.  :smt013 Good to fish with everyone. Let do it again!

You guys had quite a convoy of boats and a really productive day. That's a beautiful stringer, Pacifico, and, vwtech329, a cabezon--yum! Of course, lings are always super impressive. If the launch/landing stays that easy, I'll be out there, too!

Yeah, Dave, that be "decent"....... :smt002

Any other year, a 35-incher would be a 'zilla, but in this year of 40" lings with 15" cabbies in them, it's just decent  :smt002
