I was gifted this book for Christmas and really enjoyed it.

An in-depth look at Ed Gillet's famous successful crossing between Monterey and Maui.
Dude paddled for over two months in basically an off the shelf 22' Necky Tofino, self supported without any real sponsors or coverage.

The book covers his crossing, the aftermath, and a number of attempts both before and after Gillet made it.

Highly recommended!

This is a great story. Launched from our shop. He didnt talk about it for years because it was just too much. You don't see crossings like this anymore. This was before affordable GPS too!

Indeed, I was interested due to our local connection. I was only 16 when he made the trip :smt005.
there's about a third of the book about his dealing with the re-entry and issues he had dealing with such a close call.

We had a couple of Neck Tofinos in the rental fleet where I worked in '97 and they were of the mid-80's vintage. It was an odd boat, but we had a few regulars that would request 'em specifically because they hauled so much beer :smt005
