I caught this beautiful fish at PP and unable to identify it. Never caught or seen one so anyone know?
The picture doesn't do it justice bc it was brighter in color if I recall.

Thanks in advance!

Just a guess, but if not a treefish, maybe a tiger rockfish:

Interesting catch, and yes, she had her lipstick on :)

From Wikipedia:
Quote
The treefish (Sebastes serriceps) is a marine fish of the Sebastes genus.[1][2] It is native to the eastern Pacific Ocean with a range from San Francisco, California to central Baja California, Mexico. Its name comes from the Latin "Saw Head", referring to the large spines on the top of its head. It has been reported up to 41 centimetres (16 in), and 25 years old. It usually occurs in crevices in rocky areas,[1] 5–90 metres (16–295 feet) deep. It is a very territorial fish, also being venomous to humans. They eat mollusks, crustaceans, and small fish. The young are fed upon by lingcod, cabezon, birds, rockfish, salmon, porpoises and terns, while adults are preyed upon by sharks, dolphins and seals. They are an important fish for the recreational fishing in California

I’ve encountered them while diving a few times.
The juvenile tree fish are so cool looking. Definitely one of the most beautiful fish I’ve encountered while diving our waters.

Looks more like something you’d find in tropical waters.

I noticed the part about them being venomous to humans, doesn't say how.  Meat poisonous?  Can't lick them like those poisonous frogs?  Maybe you go blind taking their picture.

They taste like any other rockfish! There are some areas where they are pretty common, really cool looking fish!

Probably the spines... but that's just a guess.  You'd think they would be more specific, like Cabezon eggs are venomous to humans!

Confusing venom and poison. Rockfish are venomous like rattlesnakes are venomous but both are delicious to eat. Cabezon roe is poisonous and is not so good to eat but fish has no way to deliver venom.
