Made this kayak rack for my Tundra to transport my two Hobie Outbacks. I can change the cross bar to haul one or two kayaks. Before the rack, I was using a small 11’ flat bed trailer that worked well, but created parking issues. This rack makes it simple and easy to transport with all the gear. The single is setup for open tailgate and the double is setup to allow kayak storage above the tailgate. If you transport two, you will have assistance to lift kayaks on to the higher rack. Just my idea for easy kayak transport. The racks did cost around $220, with powder coating being the major cost.

Since it barely passes the tailgate when it is down does it really give it additional support?

Here is a video on the Boonedox T bone notice how far out it extends providing extra support.

I also have a tundra short bed. Been thinking about getting a larger one from hazard frought. Initially needed it for lumber, now I too have an outback.

The top T is 60” and the lower 36”. It worked great for my Outback. Much heavier grade steal that can be used to haul heavier items as well.

Much heavier and is very stable.  Plenty of support for kayaks.
