Hi NCKA members

Any suggestions for entry level base layers or wet suits. What kind of splash suits, pants, jackets, wet shoes, wet shoes, etc. Do you fellow kayak anglers use. NRS is having a close out sale but in all honesty its pricey. What can I safely budget on for kayak fishing clothing and which should I spend more money on. Mainly im curious for inner and outer wear if I fish the HMB area for safety of clothing of cold immersion

I wear a wetsuit with a long sleeve shirt under it as a rash guard. I wear outdoor “hiking” clothes over the wetsuit. Then I wear a rain suit over that. Two pairs of thick socks and rubber boots. None of it has to be pricey, but it does all add up.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Everyone has a different getup and opinion, I go for safety, people look at this list and say it's too much, too hot, but to each their own. And nothing underneath a wetsuit, that defeats the purpose, over is OK, I have some thin waterproof pants and splash jacket to add if I get cold.

In answer to your question I took a look, and this is the base I wear, and I've never seen it this cheap, $65.

Then I added a form fitting strechy neoprene jacket, https://us.oneill.com/collections/neoprene-tops/products/5046-a00-reactor-2-front-zip-l-s-jacket?variant=2173019488271

and finally for my feet, NRS Boundry Shoe,

I own several wetsuits and my goto one is 3mm NRS Farmer John with 3mm Jacket.  I like NRS or Stohlquist  Farmer John since they are easy to wear and convenient to relieve yourself with large front zipper.

I've been wearing the Stohlquist all season and find it nice and warm and very comfortable. The bottom zipper is a Major win..  usually i wear a long sleeve quick dry tee under it and have a windbreaker on top then PFD over it all.

I've got a 3m NRS farmer john, I always have a long sleeve hooded 2m jacket? when it's cold I've got my 2m socks, 2m gloves and I usually wear my 3m booties.  Over that I wear thin hiking jacket to cut the wind and slashes to a minimum.  durring the winter however I think I am going to invest in a thicker top, maybe even a thicker farmer john if I can find a good one for a good price.

Thank you guys for all the tips and advice. I'll be taking a lot of this info into consideration. So far I've only kayak fish in reservoirs, lakes and rivers and trying to build up the confidence into the big blue. I want to prepare for it the right way.

Thanks again NCKA

Ok here's the deal. I recommend a NRS 3mm farmer John(zipper in front) with a hydroskin long sleeve shirt underneath. Kokatat dry pants without the built in booties and a kokatat dry top with hood over the neoprene layer. Don't forget a wide brim hat and a high quality PFD.

Drysuit that fits your comfort and price level with booties and relief zipper.
Make sure you have enough room to layer up underneath depending on conditions.
A thin base layer that wicks away moisture then whatever you want over that.
Most of the time I wear sweat pants.
When fishing in snowy conditions I wear ski bibs underneath.
Keep your movement restricted as little as possible.
Remember your PFD will provide warmth as well.
