Report - Season Opening 9/28/2019 Redondo Beach - Palos Verdes

Getting ready for the lobster season opening day, this Saturday.
Went twice last year in December and caught a total of 6 lobsters.
Hopefully, we can catch more this year.

I have a pending plan being 2 weeks away...could change anytime though.
You don't want to launch where I launch lol...for obvious reason. I usually like to surf launch so it's closer. By the way I got them diving.
Palos Verdes is a big location and some spots hold lobsters year around.

From Redondo to PV is approximately 4 miles away and takes approximately 2 hours to get to.  There are some closer surf launch sites to PV but hard to access and difficult launch.
Been searching for more accessible locations with our tandem kayak.

Yes
I typically leave in late afternoon to get to the destination, Palos Verdes an hour before the sunset.
Typically return to the parking lot between 10 to 11 PM.

Very slow day.
Due to high swell forecast, we decided not to head to Palos Verdes.  Decided to head to Redondo Beach and hang around the inside of the jetty.  Slow start and finally got two keeps.  First one was small but the second one was good size.  Enough for dinner tonight.
It was very crowded inside the harbor.

What kind of snails are those on the table?

Nice work, Paul.  Way to execute your plan and to be ready for last minute adjustments.

They are called Kellet’s Whelk and you are allowed to catch them as they are considered incidental catch when your fishing for lobsters with a lobster card.
