I will be going to fish the reservoir this Friday and have never been. Anything I should know? Any rigs that work better than others. What kind of fish etc... I looked up other threads but they were old so I was checking for some more up to date information.

I haven't made it there this summer. I have caught a lot of Bass on crank baits and swim baits. Have caught catfish though not trying on swimbaits. On the 17 side across from  the launch there are trees in the water and all along the shore heading south. They have always been there.

I’d be interested in this too. Although I live just up the hill, I haven’t fished there in ages. I do test out various kayak and sail things on Lex but usually don’t fish at all.

I read about the boat inspection is tough there and couldn't find anything about fishing from a kayak.

Last time I fished this lake on yak was over 5 years ago but there are some nice fish in there if the bucket brigade hasn't wiped them out yet.  Also, last I fished there, the lake was only open to electric motors, so that keeps all those bass boats away.

Inspection is like anywhere else, if they find even a drop of water inside of your yak, they will deny you.  Good luck and post up a report!

I don't fish there much, but do take my kayaks out from time to time to test things out. Inspections at Lexington, are totally inconsistent. I've had "inspectors" who barely glanced at the kayak, and others who insisted on checking every nook and cranny. In general, I'd say it's pretty lax, but there are exceptions, so you do need to prepare for the worst.

My strategy is to take everything out of the kayak, wipe it down inside and out, then take a hair dryer to the inside and anywhere else that might be damp. After I pass the inspection, I stuff the wet and dirty pool noodles back inside the hull...

Just (slightly) kidding, but I do find it strange that they never inspect any of that stuff in my car that is obviously going to go with me on the kayak (mirage drive, for example).
