The ocean looked great from the road so I put in at Stinson and started out toward the buoy  Like magic 15 minutes into it the wind kicked up and before I knew it I was getting slapped around in 3-5 ft windwaves Couldn't get out to Dux and pulled the plug around 3:30

Stowing the gear was dicey, I was pretty sure I'd be swimming in a swamped yak but luck was on my side

need to stop listening to noaa weather predictions

That makes 4 trips and 1 salmon for the year so far

maybe these salmon will find the bait @ LM and it'll be a turkey shoot like SteveS hopes.

it's my only chance anyways.

somehow I ain't banking on any turkey shoots  Anyway I have to go when I can go whatever the weather/fishing is like

This occasional fishing makes it hard to get a bead on things Not like with rockies

I'm curious as hell to get out and see Pedro and vicinity There must be some salmon out there somewhere

Pablo.....seems like every year, one of our guys (kayaker) gets a rogue salmon around Pedro. With so much bait hanging around, I'm sure there's a few lurking. I did see a lot of bait getting "disturbed" while I was paddling inside the cove.....maybe it was the big smelt chasing the chovies around...but who knows.

I'm hoping the winds start to die down later in the PM, so I can recon the area after work.

Jason / jselli has been calling and giving me up-to-date intel on Linda Mar bait and conditions - I owe this guy a six pack  :smt001

Dear Paul:

Having come to know your reports as not only exciting and impressive glimpses into the desires and efforts of the rogue kayak pilot that you are, but also a virtual experience that actually rivals something along the lines of a well-done episode of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, I must protest the lack of photographic accompaniment present in this current report.  To deny us, your gladly captive audience, of the simple yet intimately poignant feel of a breaking wave next to your boat, or an expanse of several miles of choppy water between you and shore is to prevent us from a full and cathartic interaction with your world.  I hope you'll reconsider in future posts, and provide us once again with those images which captivate and inspire us.

     Sincerely, Eric

PS:  If you get your ass slammed and/or screw up a camera don't blame me!   :smt003

Mooch I just stopped at LM on the way down from the city and the water looked pretty manageable Watched a guy crash-launching his hobie pedalyak for about 15 minutes til he gave it up

Abking I forgot the Pentax but bought a disposeable at Becker's in Stinson before I went out Unfortunately not waterproof and it definitely got wet

Photos were probably kind of pointless except maybe if something sunk in with the kayak designers One of the dicier times I've had stowing gear

A guy fishing Muir posted this pic of conditions

Ritz opened the camera and it was full of Stinson Beach saltwater & sand They said if it happens just don't let it dry out

Kind of pointless pictures except that the conditions changed from what you can see in the first shot of Stinson to the slop in the other pics in a matter of minutes  Tricky conditions to open a hatch and stow gear

I trolled in it for about 3 hours and then went in to 1/2 mile or so off the beach If you get swamped stowing it's only a short swim Conditions were worse closer to shore

The tragedy is when it gets really good out there you can't drop your paddle long enough to be snapping pictures One of these days I'll get a little waterproof vcam and figure out how to mount it

By "really good" I take it you mean, "hold on for your life"/ultra hypervigilance necessary to keep from getting flipped...

I might do the same My wife likes rockies better than salmon so I might have to sacrifice a little precious salmon time to bring home a few rockies

That's if and when I can get out Not looking good at the moment but one never can tell  The gear's all packed up for a quick getaway :smt077
