Hit by a boat. Broken rudder. Busted seat. Fatty ling landed facing backwards on his knees. Freakin badass. Die hard fishing for sure
A jerk at one end of the line waiting for a jerk at the other end.

Glad you are ok. You definitely kept your cool. That guys should totally pay for any damages and apologize personally. Can't believe he did not turn around right away to make sure you were not hurt. Congrats on the monster ling!

+1 on all the things everyone else said!

But I have to mention the colors of your craft, cooler, wetsuit and PFD (and net) are almost the least visible you could have chosen on the water. I highly recommend some garments and/or a flag in bright orange or something other than black, grey and blue....

If you do have any significant damage you could also go after him in small claims court since you have the video as evidence.

It takes a special breed to be able to just keep going after knowing you had ran over someone. What a F'ing inbreed. I don't know how you kept calm and didn't even go over to at least give him some choice words. You're class act. Please make sure to at least report his ass to the Coast Guard with this video.

Way to stay calm brother.

the way I look at it with the collision, how many people has he done this to before that haven't contacted the CG about an accident on the water.

How bad would the accident have to be for him to stop, when clearly hitting another boater on the water wasn't enough?

what if he hits someone later down the line, and the kayak/boat is unable to make it back to land, heck what if he hits someone and those two kids are injured?

I think it would be very smart to have this paper trail start today with this guy.

https://www.nasbla.org/nasblamain/about-nasbla/boating-contacts/california

is where the coast guard website sent me to report local boating accidents I got the link from

You did a great job maintaining composure. And very karmic to catch a PB ling afterwards.
But I can tell you a similar story about a kayaker who waited for the boaters to return to the dock. When the boaters were confronted by the angry kayaker, THEY called 911 and reported the kayaker was intimidating them...the patrol officer showed up and issued a citation to the kayaker for ‘threatening with a deadly weapon’ or some BS because he had a gaff in his hand while yelling at the boaters.
I have also read about cases where boaters were let off the hook after running over a kayak (stupidity/not-paying-attention is often a valid excuse OTW). I’m not saying you shouldn’t seek restitution or report the incident; just saying it’s no guarantee they will face any penalties...even with the video as evidence.
In the end, we need to maintain situational awareness OTW and be prepared to get outta the way quickly if necessary. Just like you did!

Congratulations on your PB. Sadly boaters are one of the biggest dangers to offshore kayak anglers.  That said, please consider increasing your visibility.   A bright-colored Flag and lifejacket would help.  Maybe put some fluorescent tape on the fishnet pole?  Not the net as it could scare your catch.  Air horns are surprisingly often not heard if the wind is blowing the wrong way or the boat has a stereo blasting.  Horns need to be tested frequently as they can fail when needed.   I hope you at least get reimbursed for the damages caused to your kayak.  These incidents need to be reported not just to reprimand the delinquent, but to RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS.  The boaters that hit and killed the lady kayaker near the Marina Del Rey harbor 2018 Labor Day walked away without charges!   As a professional mariner, it is disturbing that they were not cited for failure to maintain a proper lookout and charged with manslaughter.

His CF # is on my radar now.   Would love to see that prick launching his boat @ HMB one day.  I'm sure I can think of " something "...
