Oh Shit,,,,   I've been on the Conception.     I heard the story this morning,, didn't realize it was one of their boats.   I think it had a rudder fall out once years ago and the captain grounded it onto Santa Cruz Island to prevent it from sinking.

   Very sad ending..  :smt010

All the passenger bunks are below deck. If you see the diagram the only exit is the stairs up that lead to the galley

This is a tour of the Vision the layout is pretty similar to the Conception. It shows the bunk area where the divers were trapped  :smt010

The trip was organized by Worldwide Diving Adventures based in Santa Cruz. The company is owned by the brother & sister-inlaw of one of my best friends (and member of NCKA). The whole situation is very depressing :-(  :smt010

Tell me about it. I’ve slept down there on multiple dive trips.
No matter how hard I try I can’t get this horrific incident out of my mind.  :smt009 :smt010

I've been on a lot of boats over the years and can't remember exactly but I think there is a hatch above one of the bunk beds that leads to the galley.

I remember vaguely someone pointing it out to me that was sleeping in one of the adjacent bunks. It may have been on the Conception, Vision or Truth. They were all pretty similar boats though. So you would think all of them would have similar hatches?

Truth Aquatics always had a safety briefing before diving on any of their boats. I don't recall ever being told about the hatch though during those briefings.

I was down south this weekend fishing out of Marina Del Ray and heard the radio traffic. Came to find out I lost friends from Stockton in the accident. Evan Quitasol went to grade school and high school with me. We had a great tetherball rivalry for many years on play ground. After high school she went right in to nursing and worked at the hospital in Stockton. Last time I saw her was when I had my son at the hospital and she stopped by to check in on us. A great family was lost, as I sure many others. Remember to spend time with your friends while you can.

I'm praying they find that last diver soon  :smt009

Truth Aquatics always had a safety briefing before diving on any of their boats. I don't recall ever being told about the hatch though during those briefings.

A couple days ago I was speaking to a good friend and long time dive buddy of mine. We've dove together on charters that he's organized before on the Conception.

He told me he was on a trip on that same boat just last week. He said for some strange reason he went to look at the escape hatch.

The way the fire is being described I don't think the hatch would have been an option anyway. Or if opened if it made things worse like a backdraft scenario???

It's just too vivid for me........

It has the pictures, and names of the 34 people. I went over everything on this articles.
Wow...just wow...everyone of them were successful in life or on the way to become one.
