Conditions looked sweet Joel. Didn't you use the octopus as bait? May have brought you good "juju" and get you a keeper ling! :smt001 Wish we could have joined you.  :smt010

Yes I did  :smt002

and one Octopus.....released...eventually

I sent the Octopus down and felt a few tugs here and there...I figured they were little RF...never really get a solid hit on it - surprisingly :smt011 Anyway, the wind began to blow so I released the octopus and called it a day.

Before we called it a day, we tried fishing the shallows 10 to 15 feet right of the sandy area in hopes for a halibut - but to no avail. Next time :smt002

Hey Joel,
that lure looks like an oversized tube bait like they use for flipping for LMB. Is that what it is, or is it one of Bill's creations? And where's MBK? Ya know almost every time I bring up a ling they cough up an octopus. Best bait going. Maybe if you hacked him up into more bite sized pieces, it would have produced... I looked at the noaa site today and it's even flatter right now if that's possible.

Hey Jonesz - yup, it's a tube bait alright. You can get 'em almost anywhere - got mine at Fisherman's Warehouse in San Jose.

MBK = Monterey Bay Kayaks - a kayak shop. It has a great / protected beach launch right behind the shop. The water here has at least 10 feet of visibility. Kelp Beds are close to shore. popular spot for tank and free divers. For parking, I believe you have to pay $8.00 to use their parking lot for the whole day (pay machine on the lot). The roleez wheels are good to have but you can always drag your yak on the sand. it's almost a hundred yards from the parking lot to the shoreline.

Check out the Tourney section - we will have a derby on August 26 - sponsored by MBK.

Hope you see there!!

Hey Adam, congrats on getting that monkey off you back (a fish from the big blue).

But how come no fish photos?

No worries, I see that you posted your fish on the AOTY page so I'm copying it here.

An 11.5 inch Olive Rockfish.  Up here we send those back down as bait. :)

BTW, you officially have the lowest scoring fish on AOTY.  We really need to get you a big'ol vermillion and a ling at the BB-AOTD tourny at Jim's in a couple weeks.  Stick with me and I'll try to put you on some fish.

You guys were in the hood and did not even call or post a hookup :smt010 .  I actually went to Coral St and did not launch because although the launch looked easy there was already wind outside at 6:15 and since I had fished Saturday, I decided to skip it.  If I had known you were there, I would have joined you.  There were no cars in the MBK lot when I drove by on my way home.  Next time.
