Hi NCKA,

My name is Jon Takara. This is my first season fishing the Bay and coast off a kayak. I grew up shore fishing in Hawaii and go annually with my family to Alaska for the Coho run. I started the crabbing season out with a large Sevylor inflatable but recently upgraded to a Hobie after a couple of rockfish spines made the inflatable hazardous to my health. Recently, a sea-dog yearling hung out while I was crabbing in HMB.

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I agree with that. I can also appreciate a rare encounter.  the pup was tagged and had obviously become accustomed to people, unfortunate but it is what it is.   It hopped aboard despite me bopping its nose with a plastic bottle several times.  When it became clear he just wanted to chill out I reported the encounter to the marine mammal protection agency (MMPA) who said it had been rescued and rehabilitated.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I'm looking to land my first chrome come this weekend from a hobie compass. Anybody going out or could suggest some launch points around the Bay coast?

Ooooh Shiney.

love the setup, you might consider a larger net, especially if you ever go out for some salmon.
