Well I went on a road trip to Crescent City to see a friend last weekend. Monday I Thought I'd give north of the Harbor a try but had no success. I then drove to Shelter Cove and fished wednesday with some success , see the pictures. One legal Ling and I kept some of the blues for ceviche. :smt044 yum! I fished Shelter Cove for about two hours before the winds picked up and you can see the whitecaps breaking in front of me. Tuesday night I drove down to the area that I fish, Ocean Cove, only to find the winds still kicking up. Didn't think I would get an abalone dive in but the winds settled down overnight and I got out early wednesday the 27th , before the winds picked up again. The visibility was terrific about 15 feet and no surge either. The biggest ab was 9 inches.

Looks like some pretty good sized blues and a nice ling!

Great pics, too. Congrats!

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Way to go, Howard!  Glad you got some yakkable water down there.  Wish I could've joined you - nice meeting you anyway, and thanks for calling.

What was the word on the salmon bite while you were there?

Nice pic of the tossy seas.   :smt001

Hey Eric,

It was nice meeting you as well, and thanks for the tips. Salmon has been spotty at Shelter Cove. Seems to me it is a much better port for power boats unless the salmon are close.
I went out today with my friend Schroeder too Ocean Cove. We dove for abs first with visibility 20-25 feet. It was like diving in an aquarium tank. easy pickings. While yak fishing I caught a monster yellow eye that was 29 inches long(of course I released it). I wish I had my camera with me to show you.I had no legal lings but had plenty of action especially at the top of the tide with one hookup after another. I kept one nice size red, a couple of blues, and a couple of Olives. Schroeder Caught all the luck , two lings in the 24-25 inch range as well as other rockies.

I checked Wil's Fishing at Bodega bay , they said one of their boats found salmon at 22 by 17 which is in about 350 ft. of water off of Fort Ross. Well I think it is time for the power boat and away I go, Just think I still have 3 weeks of vacation left. It doesn't get any better than this.
