Hi everyone, :smt006

I'm in need of replacing my fish finder. Does anyone know a place in the bay area that carries fish finders and installs them? Also, is the Lowrance Hook2 5x with a splitshot transducer any good? Thanks   :smt003

Fishing is boring, unless you catch an actual fish, and then it is disgusting.

i have the Garmin Edge and the Lowrance Hook2 5x (different boats).  In my opinion, the Lowrance is much better. For me it just works better at finding and actually marking fish.  That said, it took one outing before I regretted not spending the few extra bucks to get the non-x model.

So you're suggesting that the Lowrance non-x model is better? I'll take a look into it. Thanks Corey.

The x versions don't come with a chartplotter/GPS which is an absolute must unless you have another unit devoted as a chartplotter

Exactly. Having the chart plotter is worth the difference in my mind.

Thanks for the info Bigtuna. What's a good fish finder in the $250-$350 range?

Yup, I don't know about that price range, I would up your budget, lots more options.  I found a Lowrance HDS7 gen3 for about 500-600 a year or two ago and a bought a separate high quality Airmar transducer.

There is a hook 2 -5" double shot with the good map on Amazon for 329 right now. It will bolt perfectly on your outback. I got the triple shot and had to buy a different mount. Easy to hookup all by yourself.

The x model has GPS and shows where you have been. So it is not totally useless. I also wish that I got the one with a chart.

Thank you. I saw it the other day. I think I'll get that one since the price is reasonable and it has downscan. Do you think yhe tripleshot is worth the extra bucks? I usually launch from a ramp and I don't want to drag the bottom since I've seen that the transducer will stick out a bit for the tripleshot.

Thanks Bushy. I'm going to pick up a Lowrance elite 5Ti tomorrow. I called California Canoe & Kayak in Oakland to see if they could help me install. They got my number but never called back. I'd really appreciate if someone close could help me install it. Thanks in advance

There are several different ways to install. You might do some research here to get an idea as to the pros and cons of each...
