Thanks for the shots Adam! Sorry I lagged on getting the report up.

After picking up some feisty shiners from Loch Lomond, Adam and I hit the Paradise water just after 8:00AM...after a nice work-out of me dragging my yak down the grass hill from the parking lot since I didn't bring my wheels. Thanks for the help, Adam.

Adam took the lead and we paddled out to the 25' shelf and drifted around that area for awhile, first South, then North with the changing winds...which eventually ended up blowing pretty much from the West. Pretty tough conditions, but managable. I fished a shiner on a three-way set-up with ~4" of 8lb test to a 3oz river sinker and a 3' leader of 14lb Berkley Vanish attached to a #1 Gama live bait hook.

Anyway - after a long day of fighting the wind we eventually ended up just South of the pier, near The Point. We messed around in there for awhile (in front of my future house) and I think we both had pretty much given up hope. it was now around 1:30PM and we hadn't had a bite to show for our efforts. I was actually paddling against the wind and current to get near shore and start another drift when my pole doubled over and line started ripping off my Corvalus. No finicky picking at my bait...this bad boy nailed it and took off. Spinning my yak around and heading off to deeper water. I though it had to be a shark, but then I felt the head shakes and noticed the fish was holding TIGHT to the bottom. Finnessed it up, got it to color and - - - HALIBUT! And a decent one, too. I kept it just below the surface and debated on what the hell to do with this thing. I didn't have my net with me, just my lip-gripper and gaff. Luckily Adam offered up his net, as I've never gaffed a fish and just felt more confident with the net. Adam passed me his net, I got situated for the swoop and BAM! Hali in the net on the first swipe. The 'but did its mandatory thrash session while I held it just out of the water. When it calmed down a bit I grabbed it with my lip gripper while it was still in the net and did a BSteves war cry as I smashed its head in with my gaff. Pulled the fish out of the net and noticed the hook had already popped out. Close one! Anyway, put the fish on my game clip, threw it in my tank well, put my bait bucket on top of it to keep it pinned down when it got jiggy, and drifted for another thirty minutes or so before we called it quits.

Much props to Adam for the invite, the help up and down the hill, the use of his net, and the pics.

Here's Da Hunter on the water.
