Hello All - I visited a new-to-me lake yesterday and thought I would share. Indian Creek Reservoir is located off of Hwy 89 near the town of Woodfords, CA. There is a BLM-managed campground located on the western shore along with a boat ramp. The south and eastern shorelines are open; sagebrush country. The north shore is where the dam is located, along with a second boat launching area (dirt launch).

The water is green and very off-color. There are at least 2 aerators in the water (1 near the dam, 1 near south shore) and I'm guessing they have something to do with the water clarity.

As for other anglers, there were as many as 15 bank fisherman at any given time; 1 aluminum boat with a couple of guys casting; about 5 kayak fisherman, and maybe 6 float tube/pontoon boats with fly fisherman. Overall, a pretty quiet day on the water.

I trolled all day. Slow starting with no action on curly-tailed grubs or hoochies. Had a lot of short strikes on small willow leaf flashers and berkley worms. Caught the first two fish on an unweighted krocodile (#3). Once I switched to a small flatfish it was fishing time; 5 in the cooler, 2 lost at the boat, 4 turned loose, and a whole bunch of missed strikes. The fish I kept were all planted rainbows. 2 of the 5 were holdovers with fatter bellys, pink flesh, and better coloration. I did loose one nice fish that was around 18 inches, maybe more. I was just grabbing my net when the hook pulled loose...

Indian Creek Reservoir is a nice little spot with good access from the Reno area. I'd go back again, especially to take my son fishing. Let me know if you ever want to meet up to fish in eastern CA.

Looks like a sweet spot.  Good job on figuring out what they were hitting on.

Thanks for the report and pictures Engel.  Please post some pictures of the fish in the future because you know what we said: "no picture = never happened"  :smt003

The wind can pick up there in a heartbeat.
I remember towing CHUB when he was<2 yrs old in a float tube and car seat when the wind kicked up.
It sucked. LOL
Nice lake to fish in a kayak.
Thanks for the report.

Ok. Good point Sailfish. Problem was I didn't get any nice pictures of the fish while on the lake. But I did get a picture before I wrapped them in foil.

The wind can pick up there in a heartbeat.

So when I lost the biggest fish of the day, the wind had whipped up. I was trolling two lines and the yak started turning. In short, everything got tangled up. It was a good lesson and I pulled in the second line after that.
