My name is Len, I've been fishing from shore & boats for years and was gifted a Perception Pescador Pro  10' for my birthday. I've decided to exchange it for a kayak with pedals and probably something longer for more speed. Even though I'll be starting in calmer waters I'd like to eventually get out in the open. I'd love input on a good starter pedal kayak ($1-2K) that I can continue to invest in along with launches for beginning kayakers.

I should note that I'm currently looking at Wilderness Systems kayaks because I can add-on a pedal drive easily and invest in the long run along with the Hobbie and Old Town pedal kayaks.

I was in a similar situation.  I finally went Hobie outback.  I think you can still find an 18 at a good deal.  Holds value and is lightweight in comparison to others.  Worth thinking about.  Good luck dude!

A couple things I would consider as well. How are you going to transport, weight of kayak, and do you prefer a bicycle drive or push peddle?

Thank you - so much to think about. I have a truck so I'm not as concerned about transport but I'd like a bicycle pedal
