I've been fishing for CA Halibut in Arcata Bay for a while now with one rod. I'm curios if anyone knows if two Rods are allowed? I haven't been able to find it in the regs.
Cheers!

Salmon, one line, rockfish, one line, halibut...as many as you can handle?  Ocean regs by my understanding but I could be wrong... :smt006

think its the same ...once you retain a rockfish though...etc... back to one rod...I have not been able to find the part that says release a ling/rockfish ..no retention if halibut is your target...I'm sure it has to be tossed and one rod only if any rock or ling on board..

I'm 50/50 on bites with butts with two rods or one...seems i get more take downs with two rods -but- it is often not to my advantage -I've lost some of my biggest fish last year at the boat in the second rod mess -or taking my eye off the fight for a flash to move rod to one side of the FF etc....I like a bottom weight much lighter on one and a mooching slider 3-4' up with straight up down if pos- on the other twice the weight

The only restriction I know of for sure is you can only use one pole for Halibut or anything else in SF/SP Bays and of course the Napa river.  :smt006

You can use as many rods as you want in Arcata Bay. You may not retain a sturgeon, salmon, or rockfish though if you catch it with more than one line out. I’ve caught all 3 in Arcata bay before.

If you are out in the ocean targeting pacific halibut, one rod with two hooks is it.

I tried 2 rods on the bay last year. One was drifting bait and I was throwing a swimbait with the other. As luck would have it I hooked up on the swimbait just as the bait rod doubled over. It was a mess. Lost both fish.

yeah its heartbreaking....same same lol

huge fish- almost could see color-all by myself-- wtf out there in big wind and drift and 160' fow with 260' out of my reel and watch the fighting line start to swim towards the 260' pole with bouncer......I knew not to do anything, I told my self ignore all that -eye on the ball son, couldnt stop my other voice from saying' better move that rod'....I got schooled hard....that fish sensed that it got a bit of rope back...and put the meat to the fight and we were floating in the quiet again....with two rods in a mess no fish...two rods...or answer the phone...or light fish whistle  all good ways to loose that one bite...

I fish 2-4 rods for halibut. 2 or 3x live bait and a swimbait/rattletrap rod.

+1  I adjust the weights to change the setback on different rods. Live/frozen bait on 3way setups, with one heavy 8oz-1lb straight down, the other(s) with as little weight as I can get away with depending on conditions/depth

Thanks for all the input. I'm debating whether or not to try for halibut out o the bay or salmon out of tdad tomorrow. Will try a couple rods if I go for halibut.
