Me and Shimmy went to the coast to fish the glassy conditions and got there just as the wind did  :smt011

We found this protected cove that had big cliffs blocking the wind or so we thought...

Once on the water we got blown all around.  While the water was pretty flat we were drifting 2-3 mph at times...sheesh.

We finally found this place, which was VERY protected from the wind...

No fish in there either :smt012  We trolled, I mean jigged, for rockfish for another 4 hours.  NADA.

At least the trail back to the car was nice and EZ...

How in the heck we still amanged to have a great time I don't know, but we did.  Lunch in downtown Mendocino was delicious.  We scouted out some new top-secret launches that look promising.

"top-secret launch toward enlightenment", my man!   :smt003  (of course catching alot of big fish on other trips is one of the best ways to recognize that!)

Great report.   :smt001

I hope those aren't MY top secret launch spots! If they are you will need your top secret Cracker Jacks pinky decoder ring to use them!! :smt044
Nice report and pics; even without any fish.

Nice effort boys... too bad the fish weren't home. Looks like the winds are blowing them away all over the place. I know that you are just doing some preseason training for Elk though... weren't you???

Jim: We had chicken empanadas from the Mendocino Bakery, they are to die for  :smt007

Freddie: Believe it or not the stairs were much easier than Elk!

Definitely could have used a sock yesterday.  I don't mind them, just try not fish when you need one.

Fishim, that pic tells me all I need to know about that launch site. I look at places like that and wonder if I could just drop my yak over a cliff and commando jump to the water with gear. Keep scouting fellas- adventure is worthwhile in itself.
