Looking to purchase three VHF radios for Outback kayaks. What would you recommend that would be a good purchase for three radios? Please direct me in the right direction. I have been checking radios out on eBay, but don’t have enough knowledge to make a decision. Thanks as always for your assistance.

I like the uniden brand.  You can get them in three packs.  Check Amazon or eBay.  I use the mhs126.  It floats, which is good because they do come unhooked when your trying to get back in your yak, or tether it if yours doesn't float.

I have bought all of my Standard Horizon radios from The GPS Store.
They always seem to have the best prices. No tax, free shipping and manufactures discounts. They have a cheaper SH and more expensive one with GPS and auto call Distress.

I've also got a Standard Horizon from the suggestion of people on this board, and as they say floats, good radio for my short usage of it so far.  very clear signal even out to a pretty far distance.

Ditto on SH. Guys at West Marine were pretty goo-goo about them. Same with other forums.

Theres a $20 rebate on the Standard Horizon HX40 right now. $100 before rebate price: https://www.thegpsstore.com/Standard-Horizon-HX40-Handheld-VHF-P5524.aspx.

Will be receiving mine soon to be used as a backup.

Does anyone have experience with the Uniden Atlantis radios? The Atlantis 275 has nice features, but I can't find any reviews for that model (maybe too new).

I agree with Michael about the GPS store, they had the best price when I got a Standard Horizon HX290 some 5 years ago.

It floats and so far has been unaffected by the salt out side of cleaning the charge contacts.

I've had a HX380 from Standard Horizon and I've had to send it in every year to get fixed cause it won't charge up.  Disappointed in their product.  I wish my floating UNIDEN didn't fall out the back of my truck.  Had that radio for 5 years with no problems.

Interesting. I've got a spare SH radio (forget the exact model number) and it seems to lose charge way to fast. I thought it was just my imagination, but maybe there is a problem...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I just ordered a SH 300... reviews on the Unidens were inconsistent and I really wanted the USB charging. Will have to see how the battery holds up.

I've been using the same Standard Horizon radio for close to 7 or 8 years and have not had a single issue with it.  Only had to clean the charge contacts a couple times due to corrosion from salt water.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

If you're in the market for a VHF radio I don't think you'll go wrong looking at the GPS store.  Great prices, good selection and free shipping.  (Mine arrived the next day!)
I picked up the Standard Horizon HX890.  Yeah, I know, it has all the bells and whistles.  I was looking for GPS, floating, strobe so I decided to spend a couple extra bucks.  So far I'm happy with my purchase.  Pretty user friendly too.  Good piece of mind in the event you need it.
