Hello NCKA community. Unfortunately for me my Malibu X Factor, which is only a couple years old, has developed two rather large holes right behind my seat scupper plugs. Posted some pictures below. The water intake is exponential and seeing most of my kayaking is saltwater I do not feel comfortable with just a pump for back up. Came back from the mile reef the other day and swore my kayak was 300 lbs by the time i got back. I have a backup but its not my number one ( if you know what I mean). Any help as a tool to buy or to borrow will be greatly appreciated. Ive been in contacts with Malibu but they don't seem to care too much. Anyway tight lines fish on!!

I had the same issue with my X Factor , luckily I bought it new not used and was able to get a replacement. Check with them and see if they will give you a replacement. The new design is much better with the weight distribution. I did have Headwaters do a weld and fix the old one. I wouldn't use it in the ocean but on a lake it is fine.

Yeah I spoke with Malibu but without a receipt they're not wiling to do much. Tried to get the receipt from the original buyer, who i bought it off. He's a friend but i guess he was getting swag from them, quite a bit, and the yak was given with no receipts. Sucks for me. About 99.9 % of my fishing is saltwater so I gotta get fixed.

Might try contacting Hydrospider on this forum.  I've seen pictures of some of the kayak repairs he's done and IMHO he's a wizard with plastic repairs.

Yeah at the time he forgot to mention that part. He moved before the holes showed, then when I jammed him up for the receipts, he told me the dirty dirty dirty truth. sigh lol.

Common problem with X-factors, mine never had an issue but it kept me from buying another. Don't think I would trust a repair fishing the ocean. It you do fix it make sure you put blocks inside the hull. http://www.malibukayaks.com/pdfs/X-Factor-Reinforcement.pdf

Yeah Im starting to see that.Bummer the X Factor makes for such a smooth ride and stable as can be. I have a back up yak but its just a tandem ocean kayak I use for me and my girl. It has rod holders but malibu has the ff and all the bells and whistles. Guess its time to get a hobie!

Sorry to hear.
Anytime you buy a used kayak you really need to inspect it carefully. Even if it’s from an NCK member. Good luck with the repair.

Never done it on a kayak but to stop a tear from continuing in plastic drill a small hole at each end of the crack before repairing or the crack may just extend beyond the repair in the future. Not familiar with that boat can you reach the inside of the hull where it’s cracked? If so reinforce it from the inside if you can.... again not familiar with that boat.

:smt011 :smt011 :smt011 :smt011      Looking at the thinness and obvious buckling around the area,,  It was a blem that should have been demolished at the factory.      Some people have no concept of the word "Integrity"...
