Late Sunday Cove Report ....
Went out with a friend on a Halibut hunt.
Current was blowing to the north and the fish must have been hunkered down. After 6 hours of fighting the current, my knees were burning and I was beginning to think twice about this peddling deal. As we had a long uphill trip home, we decided to hit a nice spot I know for Lings and such.
After 8 hours and 2 very sore knees, we had a 6 hours of fighting current for 0, 1 hour of some awsome Ling and assorted Rockfish and 1 painful peddle home ......
Life is Still Good in the Cove!
But getting old sucks
Lol!!!

Too bad no halibut, lings and rockies are fun, too! Tip from an old guy:
Sometimes a pre excursion ibuprofen and a liter of water helps a lot for knee, arm or shoulder complaints.

Thanks for the report and great pic.  It begs the question, could you have fought the current with a paddle?  Last year we paddled against the current HARD for 2-3 hrs straight just to get back to the cove, and that was with it at ~2kt.  If the current were faster, we would have been going for a black sands beach landing or something else.  That trip, I was wishing for peddles and told myself, as I get older, Ill have to switch.   :smt001

Good info on the knee pain. At age 63, 15 years of running, 30 years of serious cycling, 40 plus years in the electrical trade, my left knee Hurts! Torn miniscus. I can only pedal for about 5 hours...hope to have an operation this November....after the fishing slows down!!! Will try water and ibuprofen. Thanks, Ron

Yea I am there too. My knees hurt if they twist wrong when pedaling so I have to really concentrate on my leg position when I pedal. Having an old model Hobie doesn't help either.

Thanks for the cove report and pictures Eric.  Can't wait to get back home and get ready for GS13.

I hear you on the knee, shoulder, elbow, etc., issues.  After many years of mountain and road biking, some running, impact injuries, and generally going hard at everything, mine are pretty worn too.  Although ibuprofen helps in the short term, it's terribly hard on your liver and kidneys under regular use.  Granted, sometimes the downside is worth the relief, but I started trying something else.  I'm no weed activist, but I can tell you that my initial, and admittedly anecdotal, use of CBD is encouraging.  For the record, CBD is a compound in marijuana that does not get you high, but has been shown in some studies to serve as an anti-inflammatory and to prevent or reduce frequency and severity of seizures, among a much longer list of things people claim it cures (without the science).  I picked up some gel caps and a vape cartridge to try and whether it's placebo or real, it has helped me to recover significantly faster and have less pain when I overdo it.  I have not had to eat an ibuprofen in 3 or 4 months.  I'm starting to try it now as a prophylactic (pre-pedal) and initial findings are promising.  Again, not advocating anything, but it's worth a try and if it works for you, it may be less damaging than the traditional anti-inflammatory class of drugs can be if you need to be a regular user.  One old guy to another....   :smt003

Thanks for sharing Nawm! Another point of data, my pup has a limp and the walker gave us some CBD. It seems to help. The vet agreed but said it is best to get it from a dispensary because they test it well and there is a lot of snake oil out there.

PS: dog hasn't got the munchies yet.

I hear you, I’m open to it. Haven’t gone there, but am interested and agree about the potential liver/kidney toxicity issues with frequent use of OTC pain and anti-inflammatory meds.

+ 5000 here, after 17+years packing trash in the am and detailing boats and cars (my own company) for 5 years in the pm and on weekends...... I tore my body up, one on the job steel rebar to the head.... not being able to move due to the headache for 6 months (rod hit my left eye and eye socket) I now have only blurred vision in my left eye and a headache that never goes away going on 9 years now..... but after 6 months of mostly drugged in bed I found out I destroyed my hip and shoulders. I’m only 47 but 90% of the time I feel like I’m 90.... I take naproxen sodium every morning and every night as well as glucosamine/condrotin ! Takes the edge off but never really stops the pain, Native propel and Big Tuna.... depends on what hurts more as to what I fish with.

My wife has a torn rotator cuff and degenerative disc disease and the CBD’s work for her...... I guess my stubborn ass might just have to try it.

So ... what’s my point? Well  hell I don’t know.... if it works with little side effect why not?
But above all be kind to your body while your young!!!!
You’ll be damn sorry if your not.

Take it or leave it just my $0.02 from a guy stupid enough to get up at 0400 packing trash till 1300, and buff boats/cars from 1400 till 1900 5 days a week and buffing for 12-13 hours a day on weekends!

Sorry it was a bust this time,,, but PLEASE.  Keep us posted on the fishing action up there...  !  :smt006

When I go I want my body to be totally worn out...  not preserved because I didn't get out and use it having fun.
:smt001       I'm about there now,,, that little Torqeedo sure helps.

Right on Baitman! I'm healing from a motorcycle accident and  keep reminding myself of Hunter S Thompson's quote: "
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Stay away from the hemp oil cbd.  For CBDs to work you still need some thc.  The dispensaries will be more knowledgeable as well as have more options and the products have stricter standards than the hemp derived products.

FYI- marijuana is not the common word used anymore because of all the negative connatations it brings up.  Many people find it offensive and it's a word that came from Mexico that is associated with the war on drugs.  Cannabis is the proper name of the plant and what most people call it these days.

add me to the "anecdotal-but-it-works-for-me" list.
Have used variations of topical CBD since 2003 specifically in place of advil for post fishing sore joints/arthritis pain (my dad called it "Jigger's Elbow") and I have yet to be disappointed.
