Location:  Ferry Point / Miller Knox Regional Shoreline
Time: Either Saturday 6/8 or Saturday 6/22.  6:30am - 3pm or so
What to bring:  Some food/drinks for a BBQ potluck.  And any gear you want to bring for the swap/sale.
Details:
Looks like there's some interest in this.  You guys gotta help me and vote on which Saturday you'd like.  I looked at the tides and these two days seem to work, pending wind conditions.

There's plenty of free parking, good facilities (clean bathroom, fish clean station, and kayak wash station), and a BBQ right nearby the parking lot and launch beach.  The idea is to go fishing in the morning and start heading back around noonish.  Or you guys can stay out and i'll head in around noon to start the grill.  In the morning, I'll share some local knowledge of the area and where to hunt for those halibuts if you're new to Ferry Point.

You guys are welcome to wheel & deal, negotiate, trade gear, or just hang out.  Of course, this is a FREE event, though I highly encourage sharing food and drinks with your fellow NCKAers.
Debating on putting together a prize or some sort of raffle for biggest fish of the day.  Will know in a week or so.

Please cast your vote by posting SAT 6/8 OR SAT 6/22.

- Kevin

Original Post:
My wife has been giving me the "look" when she sees me come home with a new rod or reel or both.  She says I already have so many in the garage and in my little hobby corner of the living room.  Why not sell some of the ones I'm not using anymore?

Thinking about hosting a Fish n' Chill in the East Bay once the weather and halibut really heat up (May, June, or July?).  I'd be down to BBQ for those who come hang, and of course, you guys are welcome to bring all your unused gear to sell/swap with our other local members.  Or maybe I'll pass this idea to Michael and Jack and combine it with the San Pablo Stripers/Halibut event in August.

Otherwise, the location would be at one of our local parks/fishing grounds.  Ferry Point, ARW, Marina Bay, and Berkeley all have BBQ and picnic areas to BBQ with plenty of parking space for NCKA members.

Well?
Yay or nay?

there are 2 ARW events already... Spool fishing and the other. Might be OK to combine... Check with Glen and I think, Lost anchovy? I'd be down to unload some gear... I and others usually just post in Classifieds on site, then deliver at events. To far for me just to Swap/sell when I can put all up on line and deliver where I'll already be...  But, as they say, just do it... And if Sonny comes, all will be sold... :smt044

I'll reach out to them but I definitely don't want to overload them with their own plans nor steal their thunder.  I have no issue hosting at a different location.  Would open up new spots and fishing locations to NCKA members unknown before.

As for hauling all the gear, I totally agree it's less work to post pictures and a price in the classified, then deliver or use NCKA express.  But sometimes, I'm more likely to buy something I didn't know I needed/wanted until I hold it in my hands.

Great idea Kevin! I would be more inclined if it was a meet up bbq/beer than fishing too. It would give people a chance to meet others and bringing a bunch of gear to trade / sell.  Going fishing might present a theft opportunity for some dirtbag while we are slaying some fish and that would suck!

You would have the greatest fishing library model that was ever conceived...certainly with a break or no return compensation policy... :smt006

Great idea! There have been small swap meets during tournies/events in the past...there’s usually one in the campground @ Gimme Shelter, for example. But there hasn’t been an event dedicated to a gear swap meet. I’d want to go! It would be great to unload some boxes of spare kayak fishing gear on a newb.

Yay, yay !! ... but don't be fooled by the idea of just offloading "stuff" cause you'll find "stuff" from others that you "must have" ...just don't tell the wife ;)
