Well they're starting to pick up a few fish down here about 60mi. out from Morro Bay. I've always wanted to  mothership my yak out to the tuna grounds and troll a rod and bring along a bait rod too. I'm not going to try til I have all the safety gear possible onboard, but I'm working my way to it. I have a buddy with a boat big enough to carry my yak out and it's definately something I would like to be ready for by next season. How much fun would that be on a wide open bite in the middle of  the big ocean. I was wondering if any of you guys have tried this or are planning on it and what thoughts you have on it?
                               thanks    CoS

...got him in the boat he measured six foot long I was so dang impressed I had to write this song...

Yup - we have a long time member by the name of Alan Tani who has a Grady White big enough to mothership 4 kayaks....He already did one trial trip with some of the guys for rockfish last year.

Tuna on a kayak would be a great experience....about 20 of us recently came back from a kayak mothership trip - from San Diego to San Clemente Island - about 60 miles - fishing was slow but the experience was well worth it. Caught my first pelagic / yellow tail....though it was a small one (about 10 pounds) I've gained a healthy respect for for 'em. I can't imagine catching 'em even bigger :smt118

Anyway, Good luck and we are looking forward to your report!!!!

Yea Mooch a 10lbs. YT will still spank you pretty good. Got some nice 35lbs. in my buddies 14' skiff in baja last year. Next best thing to the kayak. That's the other fish I plan on going after this year. Kind of just ready to bail everything when the La Jolla bite is on. If you guys want to  consider making the run south I'd be stoked to caravan. And when the tuna trip comes together I will definitely document it and post.
