Ben,
I place my battery on its side while its in-use in the yak. But I wouldn't recommend storing it that way.
My waterproof box is secured to the hull with some heavy-duty velcro w/adhesive backing. I super-gooped the velcro into the bottom of the hull. Then applied the other end of the velcro to the bottom of the waterproof box (aided by some extra superglue BTW). The box lives inside the hull and has never come loose while in storage, transit, or on-the-water. Of course, I remove the battery when transporting the yak.

Hey Ben,

Here's what I did - I found a foam block and shaped it into the size of the tupper wear battery container and gooped it inside the hull of my P-15. The tupper wear now fits snug in the foam block....

here's some pics:

Thanks Mooch,

I've got the transducer and FF installed. I still don't have a perminate mount for the battery. I'll need to look for a foam block. Do you know if the battery can be used on it's side?

Ben

...it shouldn't matter....me thinks.

In my P15 I use 10AA rechargeables in a small waterproof container. I put this and all the extra length of wire from the transducer in a small dry bag.
I wedge the bag inside the kayak between the side of the hull and the tube that is the scupper hole. It has always held steady, even after a yard sale.

Hi Ben,

Here is how my P15 angler edition arrived. It had a canvas battery holder installed inside the large hatch area. It fits the smaller lok lok container perfectly that I bought from Walmart to put together my power supply as referred to early in this thread.

The bag has 4 adjustable straps coming off of it. You can see where the screws went thru on the outside of the kayak in 4 spots.
Two of them are up front by the bow and two are just forward from the hatch - one on each side.

Hope that helps!

Kim

I know you want pics - here they are:

Thanks to all for the advise and pics. I ended up with the battery installed in the nose of the yak. (thanks Kim) Pretty clean when you lift the lid there are no wires to be seen and the yak is open through the middle.

Pnotos:
1. Transducer mounted in the rear scupper hole
2. Top of Transducer with cable leading into kayak
3. Battery in nose of kayak. Currently a (12v7ah) The battery is in a sealed tupperware container inside a dry bag. The other photos show the storage area through the center of the kayak is free of wires and can still be used. Notice the pool noodles :smt002

Just a stupid question, do we really care about 5lbs of weight, does it make a difference in the boat?

James,

In my experience - "maybe". It didn't seem to make a discernible difference having the 7ah battery mounted in the nose of my Scupper Pro and in my Prowler15. However, I notice that my Scupper Classic has a significant tendency to weathercock when the battery is in the nose of the boat. It bugs me enough that I have plans to relocate the battery amidships or just behind the seat recess.

Regards,
Scott
