Here is a great video Josh Russo just posted of a site in SoCal that has done urchin removal, then time lapsed all the kelp growing back... How cool is that?!  8) 8) 8) I hope we all continue to join and share the Urchin removals for NorCal to #helpthekelp

If you haven't been to one yet, they always need more than divers. Kayakers, people on land to crush urchin and help facilitate divers/boaters/gear etc, freedivers, scuba, anything. They are family friendly and fun to camp at! You can even sneak in fishing while helping out!

Amazing. Unfortunately I don’t have time right now but I’d love to see what ocean cove looks like. It should be a year in April since we dove for the cleanup there with Joshua. Keep up the incredible work!!

That is bad ass.  What is the name of the organization that does this?  I would like to look into helping.

Amazing how fast the kelp can grow when it isn't being mowed by horde of spiny lawnmowers. It will be interesting to see if it lasts or if the urchins just come back.

so awesome! Glad someone thought of doing a time lapse video of how destructive they are and how the ocean forest can come back with a little bit of help and time! Anyone know wen is the next one for Mendocino/Fort Bragg area?

And I thought the lack of kelp growth was because of global warming.  :smt044 :smt044

Great research and great outcome. Never have I seen so many of those purple critters that packed in an area. Get rid of them; please

Here is a couple pics of my last dive in Northern Big Sur... Check out all the urchins and lack of kelp!

Wouldn't it be faster and less work involve if we just crush them at the ocean floor and feed the fish instead of bringing them to shore and crush them?

This has been brought up with Josh R. but I don't know his answer. I'm guessing there is a reason why outside of "spawning" issues which have since been disproved.
