Early this week I had pinged a few folks fishing on this Saturday. We hooked up. Sackyak and I launched around 7am. Swells and winds were small. Launching was a cake.  It was the 1st time in this area, so we were exploring here and there. Nice structures were displayed while paddling along.

Fshing was slow for me. I was targeting lings and reds, dodging blues and blacks. One highlight was I pulled a “heavy” fish, but, it got unbuttoned at the middle. A black was still on hook, however, a huge bitten mark on its shoulder. The “heavy” fish was hitchhiker. A nice and big canary was caught and released. See pics. I only kept a 25” ling, 1 oliver and 1 black for dinner. Sackyak had a string of RFs for dinner too.

Swells and breeze got bigger around 10AM – start fishing early. The conditions became rough. We wasted more time on snags and decided to call off the day. We met PK and his friend on the way back. Nice of meeting you, PK. Wait for him to chime in.

A great day on water! Kayak fishing is a great way to get away from hectic work and to rebalance myself. Maybe this is one of the reasons that I am lured to fishing. Good fishing with you, Sackyak. I can’t wait to go out again.

Ocean condition around 10AM - little foggy, breeze, 6-8ft swells, choppy water.

great pics, I feel the same way about work eric...
I noted you thought I am away from work at the santa cruz house.
sort of. I have a cell phone and broadband and go back to the valley
for the extra special hectic middle of the week. no real vacations for
me in the 3 years since I founded my company.

Nice report, Eric.  This one and SeaBreeze's report illustrate well what a great community of NCKA'ers you guys have down that way.  It's really cool that people that hook up here are hooking up out there quite often too - planned get-togethers and just passing in transit.

Your comment about re-balancing the self through kayaking is a bullseye.

Jeff and I got started late. I think we were on the water at about 8AM. Didn't see sackyak and eyeatbay (I really need to get a VHF) so we just paddled north, fishing random spots here and there. Caught plenty of coppers, olives, blues, gophers, kelps, chinas, and grassies but only one underling. And one red. No keeper lings for either of us. Eyeatbay got the only keeper of the day. I know there are lings there so we're gonna have to go back again and try different tactics.
Jeff and I had a competition again. This time he cheated and stayed out in the kelp after I came in so he could win. Final score: Jeff 36 and PK 35.
Although he yakked on the water then bailed on his landing so it wasn't his best day. He only lost one box of tackle though because I helped him recover his gear in the water. It was actually kinda funny but I'll have to save that story for next time  :smt044
Pictures to come.

Where did you guys launch/land?  Is Carmel River beach nice this year?

Great fishing with you guys on Saturday.  I came home with 9 good sized rockfish all blues and olives.  The biggest was a 19-inch olive that hit my lour at a depth of 2 feet while I was moving upwind to a new position.  We went back to that beach on Sunday and the waves were huge launching from there Sunday would not have been fun.  After I got home I found a tick on my jacket.  I probably picked it up while following the creek trail back to the car as the brush was thick there.  If you went that way check yourself for ticks.

Sorry no photos.  I forgot my camera in the car and just was not motivated to take photos after getting home.

It was a good day a fishing....even if I bailed on the landing....(Dammit).  Luckily just lost a box of gear with a few weights and small swimbaits.  Thanks PK for rescueing the larger box.  i would have been really pissed if I had lost that box.  As PK said we caught a lot fish.  Mostly blue and olives but some nice ones.  I came in with 6 fish that were damn tastey.  Pics to come as soon as I find time to upload them.

Well, its about time you joined Jeff!
But, on the downside, now I can't over-exagerate my fishing reports! HA!
