I figured since it’s bad weather, now would be a good time to get my avet mxl reel serviced. Can someone recommend a good place that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg? I’m in SF

Thanks!

Send it in to Avet.  Probably the cheapest option too!  At least for a mail in service.

I recommend sending them to Avet.
They'll do a professional job.

I sent in 4 of avet reels, they ended up changed all my bearings.
I've done my due diligence of cleaning and oiling frequently but they will replace most of your parts for no additional cost.

another vote for Avets service.
The two reels I sent in last winter were feeling "crunchy" and they came back like new.
I think it is about $40 per reel?

+1 for DIY servicing. I'm not mechanically inclined and was able to service my avets. I would recommend sending the reel to avet every few years for servicing though.

Same experience with me...   No question about it.

this is basically what I did. At the end of the season I would pull the line off to flip it, wash it, and then clean and lube the reels as best I could. It took 4 seasons of being my primary RF/hali reel before it needed factory service.

I don’t trust myself for DIY after destroying a couple of Penns. I sent off to Avet today.

I usually service the reel myself. Changing the pinion bearing each season. Lube and grease the parts. It's pretty easy with all the youtube tutorials out there. But definitely send it in for professional servicing if you don't trust yourself doing it LOL.
