the salmon action out of Shelter Cove went fairly ballistic weekend before last, with 20- and 30-pound kings hitting the decks. Besides easy limits, local lore has a 50-pounder landed June 3. After a quiet week, the fishing turned on again last weekend, with Trent Slate's six-pack charter ((707) 923-1668) boating easy limits. Slate got into the fish outside The Hat, which is about 5 miles south of Shelter Cove and roughly 2 miles offshore. Slate gutted the salmon on the boat, as skippers and deckhands do, and, look-ee, the fish were plugged with large sardine. Too much wind the past three days for Slate and the others to try it, but if you're wondering where the major schools of salmon are, start there.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
